SUPERB JACK JONES
SUPERB JACK JONES
Due to my hard drive needing replaced I have been offline for several days.
Anyway, Jack's concert on Wednesday was absolutely brilliant and to me he sounds exactly the same, he can still hit and hold the notes for ever. He is still one of the most thrilling male singers around and can still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!
During one jazzier number Jack came offstage into the auditorium and started to laugh so we all turned around and a woman was standing kicking her leg in time to the music, Jack walked up to her, later at the other side of the auditorium a man did the same and again Jack cracked up. He said nobody had done that before.
I read Jack was more releaxed on this tour and he was. he looked like he was really enjoying himself. He said he thought he'd better do a farewell tour before he passed away - let's hope that doesn't happen for many years!
Before the lights dimmed this glamorous lady with a presence started talking and hugging people in the front row. I had a feeling she was "Mrs. Jones" and she was as Jack introduced her later.
For the first time ever I got to talk to Jack for a few seconds as he came out the stage door, I thanked him for the music and shook his hand, I also said please release your RCA back catalogue on cd before "I" pass away and he laughed". A little earlier one of his entourage got JJ to sign my ticket but it's not at all legible, it could be anyone.
Marion, I'm not sure if you've seen Jack yet but you are in for a real treat. Jack received several standing ovations throughout the show and he thanked us for the warmth. I was delighted to see many more seats taken than I thought but still not enough especially in the balcony.
Two gripes. I do wish the audience would wait until he finishes when he is holding on to the final note and secondly you know when you see a concert on tv there is always someone who never applauds? Well he was sitting next to me!!! A real miserable looking old guy, If everyone was like that there would be NO applause!!!
I felt like asking him to move as he was bugging me, there was Jack singing his heart out and this guy is sitting with a face like a wet weekend! However close to the end he finally put his hands together in a very half-hearted manner. As for me I was clapping like mad and standing for ovations.
Thank you Jack for a wonderful concert, you never let me down.

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Karl, sounds fun.
OMG..maybe the guy wasn't a fan and his wife/girlfriend/partner dragged him there. Yet he should've been polite and applauded. Even I do that even if I don't like the band. I guess some people just have a negative vibe on them. I'm glad you had a good time and got to speak to JJ. Wow that probably was a thrill!!!

Glad you enjoyed Jack in Edinburgh Karl.
I've seen JJ three time so far, with another two concerts to go. Birmingham tonight.
I thought I'll save my review until the last night, which is bound to be so emotional. He has been sensational in all concerts so far

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Marian with your comment on the last night I even went so far as to check out the Southsea theatre, hotel and train, looks like I'd have to change in London. By the way the Southsea Kings theatre looks very nice, we have a Kings in Edinburgh which I like very much - it's recently been refurbished as has the Usher Hall where JJ played. It resembles a smaller Albert hall.
Anyway enjoy Birmingham, have you chatted to Jack yet?

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Super review Karl---glad to know that JJ is still singing as well as ever.
I have a feeling Marian, that he could well come back--as I said before in 1996. and again in 2006, we were sure that Johnny Mathis would never come back to UK, but both times he did. The US stars really love their UK fans, I know that.

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
I made enquiries about going to see JJ's final concert in Southsea but it's 180 miles from London so I won't be going. I had thought of going with a friend from Chelmsford but he told me he doesn't like JJ - the poor misguided fool!!!!
Some people just have NO taste!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
I would not have thought that Southsea was 180 miles from London. I believe it is near Portsmouth, and I would have guessed half that distance--but still quite a long way.

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Yes, we had a chat with him and his wife in Basingstoke Karl, one of our sons came too, he also likes Jack.
Also we had an invitation to meet him, with some others, in his hotel at Birmingham after the concert, but we gave it best half way there as it was such a long walk. Hopefully we'll get another chance at Southsea.
He's not retiring but won't be touring in future, just appearing in a few selective venues over here. He's closed a few of his concerts with "We'll Be Together Again".

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Looking forward to hearing about the final show in Southsea Marian.
Yes I did know he wasn't retiring, we will just have to organise a trip to see him somewhere in America, wouldn't that be great?
Were you at the Palladium? I bet it was packed!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
So pleased to know that Jack's concerts have been so successful and enjoyable, and what a great thrill for you to meet him again Marian.
At least he appreciates his fans and you and Peter are no doubt among his most loyal.
We would have loved to have been at the Palladium but so many recent occurences with family connections have made it difficult, but it's good to know that there are still one or two singers of that amazing era giving pleasure to so many people.

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Jack loves the Palladium and said it was one of the best evenings of his career, sadly we weren't there either Lena and Harry. I'm sure he will be back there again.
We have seen him twice in America Karl, a wonderful experience!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Too bad you gave up on the walk to Jack's hotel Marian, was it too expensive to take a taxi? He should have offered to take you in the tour bus!!!!!
Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
It was just across the road Karl, but the road was very wide and lots of fast moving traffic and it was reached by going through two underpasses which weren't very welcoming! Jack's promoter was there too, so it wasn't just a one to one with Jack. I expect you would have given him a piece of your mind!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Well I can understand you not wanting to go through an underpass at night, I'd think twice about doing that myself.
Looking forward to what you have to say about Sunday's final show and if you've given Jack a piece of YOUR mind and MINE regarding his RCA back catalogue. I know Paul Howes who released the two latest cd's was going to talk to him about it.
I hope it happens sooner rather than later!
Oh and by the way I once read that Dusty admired JJ's singing talents!
