TV Bafta Awards

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Mon May 19, 2014 12:07 am

Watched the Bafta Awards on TV Tonight. The TV drama Broadchurch won Three Baftas, so well done to Olivia Colman for best actress, to David Bradley, supporting actor and best drama, and in particular nice to see my second cousin who was the script editor for this brilliant series, up there with the team to receive the award, :)
Cilla Black received an award for her 50 years in entertainment, something made me think she might have had a glass or two of Champagne, and an award for Julie Waters, who in my opinion is a cut above most of them. Brilliant actress. !! :)

Fabulous Julie Walters too.I think you were right about Cilla Black
Always sorry that Graham Norton has to be up against Ant and Dec,he deserves an award for a consistently
good show.
What is comedy these days though  I didn't laugh at all at the nominated and winning shows

Yes I was pleased for David Bradley and Julie Walters, she has proved herself to be a very fine actress over the years but doesn't it make you wonder if you live on the same planet as many of trhe shows I had never heard of.

I was also pleased for Cilla but I wonder if Cilla's in the best of health a the moment as the last few times I've seen her on tv she seems to have lost her sparkle, she's not the Cilla we knew and all this talk of not wanting to live beyond 75 is very strange. A friend of mine is Cilla mad and he's concerned too, he has met her many times after shows. I have too but not for many years infact the last time I saw Cilla she played her eon her 40th birthday and she was great. When she came onstage the audience sang Happy Birthday to her and she was visibly moved.

I no longer watch Corry but I was glad they also received a Bafta.

And who was the guy with the short sleeve black & gold shirt, was he for real? Was that an act or what? If it ewasn't then My God he really needs a script, I have noticed that even with some very famous actors they are useless without a script!

I love Julie Walters .. Especially in Dinner Ladies comedy  .....i love the show ..always makes me chuckle .....

Not a big fan of Cilla ....but feel for her if she under par ....(common in the elderly ...depression) ...i love the song If you a Ever Had A Heart ...( i always say this song wrong but I love it ..and fair doos to Cilla she sings it great but any songs after that inmho take a dive for me ) ....I had to turn it all off in the end as I was so bored ...I did see Julia though ...she's amazing ...so self deprecating too .....Celeb awards make me cringe...Mutual admiration society type thingy ...yuk ...cringe and horrible  :D

I thought Cilla looked a bit odd and clearly older and a bit less steady on her feet than in the past. However, in the paper this morning she was reported as saying she'd changed her mind about dying at 75 - she says, "I lied!", and apparently the remark was made several years ago anyway, not recently.

I thought the Doctor Who presentation was a shambles - none of the actors from the show was there, not even Steven Moffat, the producer, instead of which three non-entities were shoved onto the stage to accept (I'm a fan and I don't know who they were); the reason, they said, was that they didn't expect Doctor Who to win (the Radio Times Audience Award). Mark Gatiss, who writes for the show, was there but didn't come onto the stage and in fact he sat there looking rather glum because his episode for the 50th anniversary, An Adventure in Time and Space, didn't win the BAFTA for best Single Drama (albeit it was nominated for it).

When Cilla was on her anniversary show recently she said her back was killing her and she did seem belowo par that night.

Maxine do you mean Anyone Who Had A Heart? I don't like everything Cilla sings but in her defence she has made some great records and albums. I firste saw her when I was 16 and she just blew me away with the power in her voice.

Thanks Sandra. Sam's brother Michael who posts regularly on Facebook promoting his F troupe shoes, put the picture straight away on Facebook. Not sure if it's still on there.
Cilla Black was one of the most popular recording artists in the Sixties with her songs such as " You're My World " and "Liverpool Lullaby " as well as " Anyone Who Had A Heart" and made regular TV appearances.
She lives near to another relative of mine in Leafy Denham.
I understand that most people value their roots and where they came from, but it makes me smile when a number of wealthy celebrities, (and I could name quite a few of them) who forever bang on about where they came from and where their heart is, but few of them live there. :D

Yes but a lot of their work is in the London area L&H, The Beatles don't live in Liverpool either.

Surely they can live where they choose? Cilla always says she goes back to Liverpool to get her sense of humnour back.

I have only been to Liverpool once and that was years ago but I didn't like it. Perhaps it's improved since then, I never used to like Glasgow but that city has improved enormously over the years and I enjoy going there now.

And in closing, if I was a star I'd buy a house in Boston, Massachusetts! :)

I wasn't really being serious Karl and of course they can live where they choose, in fact one or two stars have even buggered off to Australia and hopefully will never get passionately homesick, and desperately skint and think of having a go at recording something like ... I left My Heart In Hackney Marshes, or Lime Street Station. or Barnsley City, just don't tug at the heart strings does it .
One well known TV presenter was so passionate about his hometown and wherever he was working, when each one of his Three children were born he made sure that his wife was in his hometown for that child to be born there. They say these days he has to look it up on the map :D

I didn't say All Karl ....but more often than not they are not on the same planet than us ...I've met quite a few ...Kevin Spacey ....don't get me started .....many are in their own little bubbles of "it's all about me" ....I know somebody who has close contact with a lot of the celebs and I've been so disappointed by her reports ...trustworthy ones i might add and I've had some stories that she said reiterated...believe me ...it's not a normal world ...for many not all
