Barbara - Partners

Post by Eman » Fri Sep 19, 2014 1:56 am

I went to Target yesterday as I had a free day off due to this heat wave we are having, and picked up the new Barbra Streisand album "Partners" for my Mum. I was going to wait to give it to her for one her anniversary gifts next Tuesday (57 years) but I couldn't wait. Well as always Mum loved it. Her favourites are "Somewhere - with Josh Groban", "People - with Michael Buble" and "I've Got A Crush On You - with Frank Sinatra". In my book this one is much more better than her last album and I would rate it from a scale of A-F , a solid B. Some of the songs just don't cut it for me and I wish for the Streisand of the 70's.

I'm also saddened when I listen to this new Streisand album as I think of our Terrence as I know he would be all excited to hear this album and share his thoughts. Yet deep in my heart I know he's listening to it in heaven and scoring it from A-F and then getting ready to blog on the MM forum.

M ine arrived at the beginning of the week, just not had time to listen to it yet. "Ive got a crush on you" is an old recording from a Frank Sinatra album, but agree it is great.

I saw on Facebook the other day that it is 9 months since Terence pased away--where does the time go. He is still sadly missed.

Karl,
In the American school systems you are graded as either A-B-C-D-F. This was the way Terrence rated cd's. :-) Hope that helps.

I agree with you completely Eman re: Barbara in the 70s. Just yesterday I listened to my copy from an old cassette of Sweet Inspiration/Where You Lead. Just doesn't get much better than that!

I will never listen to this new duet album, but I'm sure my rating wouldn't be as high as a B. Now if she had recorded every song with Jimmy Fallon, then it would get an A! I missed seeing her on The Tonight Show last week. Maybe Robert will send a weblink. Jimmy is one talented man!

Kathie Lee Gifford said her best duet ever is One Hand, One Heart with Johnny Mathis. Does everyone agree? I've never heard it. I usually trust Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb on everything. (Is this the first time Kathie Lee and Hoda have made it the Matt Monro forum?!)

Hi Paul. I still have not listened to all of the lbum, but I am sure I will love it.
Yesa, I know the One hand.one heart duet--a couple of my friends were at the recording of this in Us-a very special charity occasion. I cannot say it is either a Barbra favourite duet or a Jm favourite, but a lovely song nevertheless.
I think my favourite Barbra duet is "I finally found someone" with Bryan Adams--but she has done a load of great duets.
I would say that it is almost 100% sure that this is the first time that Kathie Lee and Hoda have been mentioned on this forum. !

My favourite Barbra lp would have to be 1971's Barbra Joan Streisand. Loved every track on it and would call it her "soft rock" classic lp.

I heard today that an American newspaper gave Babs album a scathing review, I am sure she has no need to worry. I have seen movies and heard albums that got rave reviews and thought them lousy.

I too like Babs singing Stony End/Where You Lead that'#s the kidn of music I love to hear her sing and I agree Barbra Joan Streisand is a great album just listen to the john Lennon song Mother, is that a great performance or what? Emotion is also another great album.

I have a rare single called Corner Of The Night in a picture sleeve which has never been released on an album or cd to my knowledge.

I may just treat myself to Babs and the new Neil Diamond cd when I'm Stateside, his is released days after I arrive.

Good, I knew it was being released on vinyl too and there are two different cd versions, one has two extra tracks.

I have no Jewish roots at all, but I just adore Barbra in the film "Yentl". Also "Fiddler on the roof" both very Jewish films.
