Hi Robert---it just goes to show how many truly awful records there have been over the years---but where is your nomination for your least favourite record??

I am here to defend and praise Lulu and her recordings. I think she's excellent. Of course I love To Sir With Love. But my two favourites are Oh Me Oh My (I'm A Fool For You Baby) from the early 1970s and If I Were You (I'd Fall In Love With Me) from 1982. She sang the latter with so much soul that even the R & B stations in the US played it! I'm not sure if either of these songs were popular in the UK.

Hello all. Paul, "To Sir With Love" is a really lovely tune, but I haven't heard the other two Lulu songs you mentioned.

Marian, I hadn't really thought of my worst ever record until you asked. But I must submit a song I have already mentioned before, Hank Martindales "Deck of Cards" !!!! cannot really say much about it, can we.

Hilary -- Don't you think that "...Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears is a great recording? Especially at the end with the contrapuntal voices. It's definitely her best. I also loved Toxic by her. Great bass line and lead guitar.

Everyone -- YMCA does get me up out of my seat. I run away as quickly as possible to escape the song and the silly movements that Americans do at wedding receptions and office parties. I just hate the song and the silly movements. And it's not because I'm tired of it. I never liked it when the song when it was popular.

I have heard a couple songs by the Puppini Sisters, but I wasn't impressed.

Here's the point I was trying to make about how Matt Monro fans could possibly like songs like Venus In Blue Jeans, Apple Blossom Time, and that awful Aerosmith song. As true Matt Monro fans, we know the best in music. Because there's no one who can interpret a lyric like Matt Monro. There's no one with the artistry of Matt Monro. No one can phrase a lyric like Matt Monro. No one has the depth of emotions as Matt Monro. Matt Monro is the gold standard for music of all kinds.

So how can someone who appreciates the beauty and emotion of Matt Monro's Maria or Till The End Of Time see anything of interest in I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith?

I realise that many other artists can get close to Matt Monro's artistry. Those are the artists that I enjoy as well as Matt Monro.

I apologise for being so outspoken, but I'm passionate about music.

Yes Paul, we are all passionate about music too. Most of us are Matt Monros no.1 fans, but we have to listen to other songs also, and some of those songs we find rather good as we too have a wide musical taste. We are not saying that the songs you mentioned are great songs, but they are songs that we have heard and appreciate for different reasons. Of course there are hundreds or thousands of songs that you or we could mention, that we like to listen too and admire for different reasons. We all have different musical tastes, but for most of us Matt is definitely no.1 in our books, but we still enjoy listening to all sorts of songs and other types of music. Phew............

Just to put you right Robert. Wink Martindale did Deck Of Cards. He was a game show host in the US for many years.

Hi Lena, Harry, Robert, Marian, Paul and anyone else I have forgotten to mention here!

Paul - I may have been a little harsh on Lulu here but I guess that I was thinking about the song that Lena and Harry mentioned in an earlier posting.

I think it was last year, she recorded a cover version of "we've got tonight" with Ronan Keating which I actually did like!
I thought that their voices did blend together well.

Also I agree with you Paul about the music on the Britney CD's.
Yes, the music is GOOD and she certainly does have some of the best musicians playing with her but I still can't quite get my head around her voice! It still leaves me feeling cold as there doesn't seem to be all that much "emotion" in her singing! It is probably just me that feels this way.

Matt is of course our number 1 singer and I guess this is why we sometimes feel let down by some of the other singers as we may have high expectations and feel that they are not quite as good as we hoped they might be!

Robert is right, (don't let this go to your head now Robert!) we all like other singers and this is why we sometimes don't always agree with everything said here, but this is what makes the forum interesting I think.

There are many other singers that we could mention here but we would probably take up too much room.
We all know that some of the best singers don't always get the recognition they deserve as they may not have a big record company or manager behind them.

Hi Robert, Marian, Hilary Paul, We agree with all the comments, and when we make comments about a particular song by an artist it doesn't always mean that we dislike the singer and other recordings that they've made. The ones mentioned are often a rarity for that artist and that's why we remember them as being so bad.
Lulu has made some good recordings, and Sinatra hasn't done so bad either.
Anyway Paul it's no good sending you the instructions for aga doo doo doo push pineapples off a tree, or The Birdie Song, Simon Says, The Macarena,
We've got a confession to make We've been there, done that, got the T shirt.

Haven't we all Lena and Harry :D but hey! don't spoil it for the young ones...let them sample some of our 'dance routines'

I think some of my worst songs were 'Does your chewing gum lose it's flavour on the bedpost overnight' and 'My Old Mans A Dustman' 8)
old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

Yes, Robert, I think I may have reconsider attending! :)

A chorus of Rule Britannia and Jerusalem would be fine though! And the Dambusters March sounds intriguing.
