Just felt like comparing recordings of similar artists and identifying the preferred version, in this case Matt Monro and Johnny Mathis.

They both recorded the following songs:

Yesterday - best version: Matt's
Spanish Eyes (not a song I'm overly keen on) best version: JM's
September Song - best version: Matt's (though unlike JM he does not sing the introduction)
Speak Softly Love - best version: JM's (Matt's vocals are fine but I hate the tinny orchestration on it; JM's is far superior in all respects)
On A Clear Day You Can See Forever - best version: JM's (HATE Matt's version)

That is one of my favourites from "The Beautiful South"--I had about 4 to choose from, when I did my selection, and that was one of the 4 !

And also, when I listened to the first cd of theirs that I bought--I think it was called "Carry on up the charts" "Song foir whoever" was the very first song I heard on it. It was just so unusuall, that is why I remember it so clearly.
