Another good show and I love Ebb Tide and next week an all British show … lovely.

I know he's playing Matt, Cilla, Tom and Shirley next week

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
A really good programme from Don tonight featuring British artist's only ………...he played one of Matts earliest recordings tonight saying he thinks Matt is the only singer to sing the verse at the beginning of the song, he then played Once In a While
..............I'd heard of the mystery singer before, but I didn't know who was singing until Don told us..............Don mainly played older British singers from the past including Dennis Lotis who I hadn't heard sing before (he is still alive and nearing his 95th birthday) ……………….he didn't play Dusty, Alma Cogan, Ronnie Hilton, Ken Dodd or Michael Holliday though

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
We enjoyed Don's show as well. We agree that there were quite a few singers missing but to be fair if he had included just the ones we thought of then he would have needed a three hour show at least!
Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Surprised you've never heard Denis Lotis sing. He made a nice LP with Dorothy Squires called Cheese N WIne.ROBERT M. wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 2:39 amA really good programme from Don tonight featuring British artist's only ………...he played one of Matts earliest recordings tonight saying he thinks Matt is the only singer to sing the verse at the beginning of the song, he then played Once In a While..............I'd heard of the mystery singer before, but I didn't know who was singing until Don told us..............Don mainly played older British singers from the past including Dennis Lotis who I hadn't heard sing before (he is still alive and nearing his 95th birthday) ……………….he didn't play Dusty, Alma Cogan, Ronnie Hilton, Ken Dodd or Michael Holliday though

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
If I remember correctly Dennis Lotis was at Michele's book launch back in 2011.
Re: Don Black on Radio 2
I was surprised didn't played Anthony Newley on his British only programme as Don is a big AN fan...…..I may have heard Dennis Lotis sing before but I can't remember ………….but I do remember George Martin saying that when he was looking for a singer he was going to choose between Matt and Dennis, but thought Matt had the best voice...…..how true

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
We still like to listen to 'the youthful sound of Matt Monro' as Don said after playing 'Once In A While'.We remember playing that first LP to death as they say.

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Dons show last week was a British only programme ……….tonight's show was all US singers apart from Matt who sang I Get Along Without You Very Well
........I got the mystery singer tonight which was quite easy

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
We didn't think this show was as good as last week's show but of course Matt was his usual superb self.
Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Yes Maureen and Harry this weeks show wasn't quite as good as last weeks...….British singers must be the best
......…Don said after playing Matt's great rendition of I Get Along Without You Very Well......."That's why I call him the matchless Matt Monro"

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Another good show from Don tonight who didn't play all the usual artist's ……….he played Nat King Cole singing Love Is a Many Splendored Thing but when I hear other artist's singing a Matt song I always think they aren't a patch on Matt's versions and usually they aren't …………….he played a Mario Lanza song then repeated the "toilet roll" anecdote he has mentioned a couple of times before...………..nice to hear Connie Francis tonight ………….he played Pat Boones' Friendly Persuasion, but has Don ever heard Matts version because he has never ever played Matts version before ………...the show tonight was dedicated to lyricist Paul Francis Webster who did write many great standards ………...Don always goes back to the Hoagy Carmichael album for many of Matts songs, as he did tonight as Paul Francis Webster wrote the lyrics to Memphis In June
..........I think he goes back to that album too often...........he did the same last week........but an enjoyable programme none the less.
