Favourite Films
Re: Favourite Films
STATE FAIR (any version) Feel good film with good songs, especially 'It's a Grand Night for Singing'.
Re: Favourite Films
another wonderful movie - The Ghost and Mrs Muir with Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison and George Sanders
Re: Favourite Films
Marian has already mentioned this one, but State Fair (1945 version
)...............I think this is the first film Rogers and Hammerstein worked together on................I love - It Might as Well Be Spring........................but I love - Jeanne Crain even more (heavenly)

Re: Favourite Films
In the above video Jeanne puts on her Betty Boop voice, until the panel know her identity
...................Jeanne Crain was also the star of the rather controversial movie, Pinky (1949) a story of racial prejudice, it tells the story of a half coloured girl who passes for a white girl while at school.

Another brilliant R&H movie is The King and I
........Yul Bryner and Deborah Kerr star in this wonderful film
.................I will say more at a later date, but I just have to show you Deborah Kerr on What's My Line in 1953...................she is so pretty here (she looks different to the way she looked in her films)

Re: Favourite Films
I loved Song Of Norway from 1970. I think it was panned by all the critics, but I loved it because I was just getting interested in Grieg's music around this time. I need to get a DVD of this movie.
Re: Favourite Films
Do you know, Paul, I had that film on my list for later. I remember seeing it ages ago with George, and I was stunned at how beautiful and listenable the Music of Grieg is---along with the beautiful scenery in the film, and the lovely story, I really enjoyed it. I did buy some Grieg music after that on Cd.

Re: Favourite Films

Grieg's music has lovely melodies and passion as well. I visited his home a few years ago and it's a beautiful place.
Re: Favourite Films

Re: Favourite Films
Pam, this dvd has now been discontinued, although there is an imported one in Amazon.com--not sure if it is in English though, as it has a foreign title. Ebay could be a good place to look.

Re: Favourite Films
One of my all time favourite non musical films is the wonderful black and white comedy IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT............ made in 1934
the film deservedly was a multi Oscar winner
............starring a handsome Clark Gable and the lovely Claudette Colbert, the film was truly enthralling from start to finish
.........directed by Frank Capra.
