TERRY WOGAN vs CHRIS EVANS.
Re: TERRY WOGAN vs CHRIS EVANS.
Thank for the info Mike.
I would sometimes replay the Simon Calder segment to hear his descriptions. I loved how he would emphasise certain words and get excited about saving money, etc. And he'd often throw in a million dollar word. Very entertaining approach.
I'll try to listen to Liza Tarbuck. I love 'mumsy', so she may connect with me!
Not encouraged that Chris Evans is talking to Steve Wright. I cannot tolerate Steve Wright; he talks over every song. I wish he was retiring. But I agree that Chris will have an eclectric mix of music. I just hope he plays the playlisted songs in full and doesn't cut them for more talk. And "new" old songs need to be played rather than the same old songs, which is my problem with Ken Bruce lately. Sarah Kennedy's music producer does a good job of finding "new" old music.

Hi Paul
I hear what you say about Steve Wright, and would agree that Steve's show is less music based. He does play some good music, I particulalrly t like the 3 o clock listeners choice. Steve's show is more talk biased, with his posse all playing their part. I do love to hear the Old Lady and Ask Elvis! He also gets some great guests on.
If we're talking obscure songs then Terry has had some songs on the playlist since about 1976, including 'let your love flow' by the Bellamy Brothers, 'the piña colada song', 'star in new York, star in LA' and 'you're moving out today'!

Sorry to change the mood on this thread, but I will forever associate the name of Steve Wright with the 9/11 disaster.
We were travelling home from a holiday in Wales that afternoon when Steve broke into his radio programme to give the news that a plane had flown into one of the Towers of the World Trade Center in New York.
Of course we had no idea then of the terrible aftermath of what he had said, and what horror followed as the day unfolded.

Mike--I would not class those songs that you listed as "obscure" by any means--I know all of them really well-especially "the Pina Colada song"--otherwise known as "Escape"-by Rupert Holmes--a talented, but much underrated singer/songwriter-I have several of his cds.
I also enjoy Steve Wright in the afternnon.

No need to apologise Marian, radio has been flashing good news and bad, for 100 years or so now. Some of the most momentous events of that period have often been broadcast haven't they. Even the distress calls from the 'Titanic' were being monitored from a radio shack atop Wannamakers department store in Philadelphia. The loss of the 'Hindenburg' is still an amazing piece of radio, at a time when the great airships' arrival was considered a matter of routine. We may have become used to the shocking images on TV but radio can still be a sad as well as a pleasurable experience.
Mariana, the point I was trying to make is that Terry still plays some of the same songs that he has for the last 30 years! My Mum really liked the 'Pina Colada' song (as she still calls it!), and I do too. But its still a bit obscure in my opinion! As is 'From New York to LA'. However I understand that 'you're moving out today' was by songwriter Carole Beyer Sager who is a renowned songwriter and former wife of Burt Bacharach! So I'd better not call that obscure!!

Strangely enough, I heard the news of the 9/11 disaster when i was on holiday---sitting in a coach, waiting for some latecomers, and the driver switched the radio on. It took me a few minutes to realise what he was saying--but the worst part , was that no one else but me seemed to realise, just what a terrible tragedy was unfolding--they all just carried on chatting, laughing and joking--while I was sitting in my seat crying !!!!

I somehow got a premonition of how bad rhe situation was too. Peter who was driving, didn't say anything. I remember saying "Didn't you hear that?" I assume most people at that time thought it was a small plane, and accidental.
Re: TERRY WOGAN vs CHRIS EVANS.
(Sir)Terry will be on the new season of'THE ALAN TITCHMARSH SHOW'next week-perhaps he'll reveal all!
Re: TERRY WOGAN vs CHRIS EVANS.
Just read on Teletext today that Chris Evans intends to start his breakfast show on Radio 2 at 7.00 as opposed to Terry's 7.30 time.
I am just wondering where this leaves Sarah--does she just have an hour's show--or will she have to get up half an hour earlier ??
I have seen no mention of that yet.

Apparently she told her listeners a few weeks ago that her show will only be an hour and will focus on the newspaper review. I hope she still does the show tune and entertainment news.
Re: TERRY WOGAN vs CHRIS EVANS.
I must have missed that. Is Chris Evans going to finish at the same time that Terry Wogan did--or half an hour earlier.?

Oh no, he would never end earlier than Terry Wogan did. He may even take a half hour from Ken Bruce one day. He needs to show that the level of listeners is close to Terry's. Adding on a half hour will help reach this goal. Chris Moyle did the same thing a few years ago when he took a half hour from Jo Whiley's programme. Then he can say he has the most listeners in the UK.
