Yes Paul, I had mentioned it before-I was not sure if Sandra had ever heard of it.

No,that one has passed me by I will look for it though. :)

MY FAIR LADY: The film and the show especially 'I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face'.
Despite seeing the show in the West End my favourite Professor Higgins was at our local theatre many many years ago when the part was played by Tony Britton :)

GUYS AND DOLLS---Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons---the song ""I'LL KNOW", one of my favourite songs ever. It was a revelation to hear Marlon and Jean sing, and the whole scene was just brilliant--

Brought back to life in one of Barbra Streisand's concerts, where she duetted with Marlon, who was on the big screen, taken from the film--just brilliant

We went to our local theatre last night to see a show called 'Beyond The Barricade'.
It was a superb show that has been touring for 10 years with 2 male and 2 female singers plus 4 musicians.
If you haven't seen it already hope you will be able to sometime. :
The 2 males have been in the West End one playing Javert in Les Mis and the other playing Che in Evita.
Superb choice of songs from Evita,Phantom,Le Mis,Lion King,Mamma Mia ,Mis Saigon and many more-wonderful. :D

Sandra--it sounds just brilliant-I already know that i would love it-although I do not ever recall heraring that name before--we have a theatre in Tunbridge Wells that does all types of shows, so I will llok out. Why doi they not do anything like this on TV --i cannot be the only person who would enjoy it.

Hi Marian
I just looked and they have their own website called Beyond The Barricade obviously.
Their are some 2010 dates advertised but only for part of the year as yet.
I hope that they come to Tunbridge Wells. :)

Is the name of the show originally taken from the Spandau Ballet hit I wonder ? :)

Robert, I think you will find that it comes from "Les Miserables" and the final Barricade scene---much as I love that song by Spandau Ballet, it just does not fit in with the big musicals.

I love the scenes from "Oklahoma" , with Gordon Macrae and Shirley Jones singing "Surrey with the fringe on top", and also "People will say we're in love".

I saw this at The National Theatre with Josefina Gabriel and Hugh Jackman---but noone can beat Gordon and Shirley on those tracks.

"Words and music" is such a great film--the story of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart--so many great songs---and so many great singers--most of them have sadly left us---Judy Garland : Perry Como :Gene Kelly : Mel Torme----but strangely enough, my very favourite extract comes from someone who I usually consider an actress rather than a singer---June Allyson with "Thou Swell"-
I could watch it over and over.

I love that too Marian :) I think June Allyson shares the scenes with Peter Lawford :)

I do not think Peter Lawford is in that film, and I do not recall him singing with June Allyson--not on my dvd anyway.

Wasn't he in "Singin' in the rain " ?
