Well done, Mike. I thought that would take longer to guess. But you know your music. It's a lovely song and I love that opening verse. And an aside, I liked many of Grace Jones' songs. Is she still recording or performing?

Your opening verse was very easy. It's one of Mariana44's favourite songs and one of the Gershwins' best, But Not For Me. I even liked Elton John's version in Four Weddings And A Funeral.

Here's another easy one from me. This goes way back in time.

My desert is waiting
Dear, come there with me.
I'm longing to teach you,
Love's sweet melody.
I'll sing a dreamsong to you,
Painting a picture for two.

Funny you should ask that Paul - I did hear somewhere very recently that Grace Jones has been evicted from her Chelsea Harbour apartment after leaving it in a disgraceful state. I think she is still leaving a pretty turbulent lifestyle and certainly not heard any mention of new material. Of course, she is still known in the UK as THAT woman who slapped up the chat show host Russell Harty live on national TV.

All this digressing means I am a bit stuck on your latest teaser!

Yes, 'But not for me' is a lovely track. I know the 'preamble' because its spoken by Eydie Gorme on her wonderful 'On stage' album.

To be honest, I only found out about Gisellle Mackensie because my Mum challenged me to find a record by her in the Tower Record store when they opened in Piccadilly Circus in London. I had gone into buy some Bobby Darin and there was Giselle - well one of her LPs - not the lady herself! So I taped it of my mum, but the tape broke eventually, and dad gave th LP to the charity shop when they went onto CD! She had a very elegant style, sang a wonderful version of 'Stranger in Paradise' and introduced me to 'Song from Moulin ROuge' as well as 'Hey there'. I was sad to read that she had died a few years ago.
Michael

Here I go again, I hear those trumpets blow again.......

Hi Paul and all. We saw this Musical twice in the Sixties with the late John Hanson playing the mystifying part of the "Red Shadow."

Blue Heaven And You And I which is of course The Desert Song :) :)

Here's another ...
Sweet One Fairer Than The Flowers.
Never Will I Meet One
Sweeter Than You.
Would You Turn Away Or Could You.
Really Learn To Care.
If I Ever Dare To Say
I Love You.

Hi all--well I knew "But not for me" of course-as Paul remembers, it is one of my faves--quite a few siingers sing that opening. On Rod Stewarts version, instead of "Beatrice Fairfax", he sings "Oprah Winfrey".

Plus I have heard another name used , that I cannot recall--I always wondered who Beatrice Fairfax was-in the end I guessed she used to be some kind of Agony Aunt--it fits!!

But I have not known the others.

It is a long time since I heard Giselle Mckenzie on the radio--I think she may well have been on Family Favourites--or something similar.

Plus Mike--I have not forgotten "On Stage"---just been really busy lately.

The last time Giselle Mackenzie came to mind was when she appeared in one of the afternoon series " Murder She Wrote" with Angela Lansbury that often had forgotten, (who where and when" faces from the past appearing.
She did make albums, I Could write a book and Lollipops and Roses were two songs that we remember but "Seven Lonely Days Make One Lonely Week" perhaps her best remembered.
She did also duet with Gordon MCrae.

Here's a clue to the verse,
Doris Day recorded this one, but so too did Maurice Chevalier

Here's another one :

Like all fools, I believed what I wanted to believe
My foolish heart conceived what foolish hearts conceive
I thought I found a miracle, I thought you'd adore me
but it was not a miracle, it was merely a mirage before me

Lena & Harry, I am surprised.

Do you listen to Annie Lennox?

Isn't that her "Keep Young And Beautiful" as both of you have done?

Try this :
After watching her appeal from ev'ry angle
there's a big romantic deal I've got to wangle
For I've fallen for a certain lovely lass
and it's not a passing fancy or a fancy pass.
