Hi all--"Last of the Summer Wine" was a special favourite of ours-I can remember George laughing so much at Compo, that he fell off the settee, and was rolling about on the carpet , just crying with laughter. That alone made me laugh, too! I think after Bill Owen died, it was never the same.

But I find it impossible to watch it now, on my own.

1. L&H were Chinese takeaways popular in the 50's and 60's, as they are nowadays.

2. The male star in "Nearest and Dearest" was Jimmy Jewel.

3. Very sad so few people went to Hylda Bakers funeral, so sad :(

4. The TV series of "On The Buses" was far superior to the film versions, which were very "padded".

Yes sorry to read that Marian, got a magazine with a picture of Harry taken with Bill Owen in the early Seventies when Harry was the leader of a Boys club here in London. Looking very smart and anything like Compo.
Remembering again, Thora Hird in one episode about to start up the car after failing several driving tests and asking Wesley... Have you been moving things around again. Great series :)

Hi--so many of the originals have died---so many great characters. I do not think they can ever recapture the pure magic of those early series.

Anyway, getting back to the thread--- Here we go again gang,
There's some great stories, really interesting on Matt's press cuttings section.
Read another one from a reporter that said. ......
With a charming smile on a tough round face, looks somewhat like Alan Ladd.
You just can't help liking him. :)

More news snippets of Matt, before his singing career took off.
Matt was working in "The Imperial Tobacco Company"
Matt said... I was an offal boy-- no matter how you spell it
Matt said he only lasted a few weeks, nearly smoked himself to death and was the cause of the fag shortage in 1945, ( he didn't come around Kilburn that often then) everyone puffed away in those days, all wanting to look like Bette Davis or Clark Gable, but not exactly feeling like them.
A Special occasion attended by Matt was for the "Spectacular Starlight Dance" at Harringay Arena.
Dozens of stage screen and radio stars will be waiting to dance with you.
It is a Flannel or Lounge suit occasion with gay Summer frocks for the girls.
Then there was a Grand Charity Concert in aid of the Mayor of Battersea's Old Peoples Fund and when 50 LPs went missing from Fieldmans New Record Shop in Soho.
In a TV Mirror Kirk Douglas says that Britains teenagers are the most aggressive and worst in Europe.
(He had been around Kilburn then.)
Extra read all about it.
