CHRIS EVAN'S-BREAKFEAST RADIO.

Post by mariana44 » Mon Jan 11, 2010 11:45 pm

Did anyone get to listen to Chris this morning---I heard bits and pieces of it, and thought he did really well. Although I thought 2 and a half hours was really long. I hope he gets to include "The Candy Man" sometime---I loved singing along to that. I had guessed that his first record would be "I've got my love to keep me warm"--but he played "All you need is love", so I reckon I was quite close-with the message , anyway.

I listened also to Simon Mayo tonight---the problem is, he does not have a very distinctive voice--it could be anyone--and he introduced a stupid, pointless game , about the times of various singles--ie--3 mins 25 seconds etc, etc, etc. He is lucky he still has Rebecca and Sally with him---but I wish they had also gone with Chris, as I think they made a good team. I shall miss Chris in my kitchen every night. At one time I could never have imagined myself saying that.

We went out early so missed it Marian, but that sounded like a good start, I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm, and although seasonal, it could be an indication that he'll continue in Terry's vein and play some nice music. :)

I was wondering if any of the forum listened to Chris Evans this morning. I may "listen again" later in the week. But it's a busy week with Jo Whiley's return, an expanded Sarah Kennedy Dawn Patrol, and Eric Hall. It's gonna take me a few days to build stamina for Eric and his interuptions. But I have Michele and Matt and the three Matt songs to look forward to.

Hi Paul
On our second morning of listening to Chris Evans.
Mainly enjoying the music he is playing.
Too much talking and audience participation we think.
It is more like a local radio station format .
Not disliking it so far but finding ourselves 'glazing over'
by the end of the show.
It is early days so we will keeping listening -- for now! :? :?

Hi Mariana

I heard the 1st hour of the Chris Evans Breakfast show and was suitably pleased. I thought 'All you need is love' was a great opener, and was impressed by the amount of 'older' tracks he played eg Frank Sinatra. Chris has said in the press that he is looking forward to playing songs by many of our favourites including Matt, and we know he loves Sammy Davis Jnr! It was also lovely to hear Moira Stewart back on the air, and I am glad to to hear that the the 'traffic totty from Splot' is still on the show. I miss Chuffer Dandridge though!

Like you, I felt that the Drive Time show was a lot weaker, although I have always quite liked Simon Mayo as a broadcaster. I did actually enjoy the 'Pontune' game, but missed the 'Fox the Fox' spot and Rebecca's business interview - it just doesn't have the same feeling when I get in the car and turn the radio on and kind of proves what a great talent Chris Evans is.

I shall also miss the tail end of Sarah Kennedy every morning now - it was always nice getting into the car at 7.10am knowing that a showtune would be turning up in a few minutes!
Michael

I'll have to pay more attention,  but All you Need is Love is as equally satisfying as I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm.
Still haven't been able to listen in to Chris Evans, workman expected to call this morning, And we all know what that means.... The Flanders and Swan song.

I've not heard much of his breakfast prog so far. There was quite an amusing cartoon in the Express the first day, showing a transistor radio flying out of one of the windows of Buckingham Palace

There were a couple of Guardsmen in the courtyard below, one saying.."I wonder what Her Majesty thinks of Chris Evans's new breakfast show".. so it must have been Her Maj's radio!!

Well-he did play "Candyman" this morning---and promised to play it every Friday morning--allthough the only person singing along was me--and as I am still sounding hoarse, it did not sound good!!

I thought he played some good tunes today.

Well as the book is due to be launched on January 29th, why don't we all ask for a Matt track to be played on that day - he has a golden oldie request every morning.

Heres the link to the request page so if someone can come up with a special memory then why not fill it in and request a Matt track

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/chris ... den-oldie/

I think Chris has got pretty good taste in music so its worth a try!
