That is true Robert. I had a dear friend who was diagnosed with a terminal illness, and she bravely planned her own funeral from start to finish. She started with a musical version of "Love is all around", which it certainly was, "Jerusalem ", because of the WI connection, and the last 2 impressed me so much, that I used them at George's funeral a few months later----Hayley Westenra singing "Never say goodbye"---and a musical version of "My Heart will go on " [Titanic Theme].

However, I realise that is an extreme example--there are many healthy people around, who have fixed ideas on the song they would like played at their funeral.

Well we knew a lady who was a regular member of a club for the elderly and told her friends that when she goes she wanted a brass band behind the hearse to play her out and that's just what they did.
It was even on the television

It is Mark, we were wondering whether to start a thread on what flowers or hymns are most popular at funerals .

Attending a funeral last year, we were looking at the floral tributes outside, and the following service must have started inside.
Out from the crematorium came the rousing strains of "Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag"!!
Possibly an old soldier..

Maybe a fitting time to remember our troops this Christmas time, serving their country far away from their loved ones. God Bless them all.

Marian.

I have just remembered my friend Julie, always insists that when she goes, she wants Johnny Mathis singing "Gone,Gone, Gone" at her funeral!!!

I do not know if any of you know this song, but it is a disco type song---it always makes me smile every time I think about it

On the same subject, my friend has just been to a relatives funeral, where favourite songs were chosen. I thought they were quite a bizarre choice- as they started with--

"Son of a Preacher Man" by Dusty Springfield
"You belong to me" by Jo Stafford
"Money, Money, Money" by Abba.

The "Money Money Money" song is interesting Marian, as the person was either very rich, or very poor, and wished they had had more money in life
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

I always thought that Darius was great--I think he will be a big hit in this show----to me, the "Big Band Special" of that series was far and away the best, and Darius fitted in with that genre really well. I have the cd of the Big Band Special with Will Young, Gareth Gates and Darius and all the others, and it still remains one of my favourite cds.

That series of Pop Idol was the very best and most exciting as far as I was concerned, out of all the x factors etc.--some really good singers--including young Zoe Birkett who had a great voice, but seems to have vanished.

Of course, it was "Pop Idol" Darius was in wasn't it? Now I've gone and added him to the X Factor thread!! Seems I'd better go and take some more Phyllosan this morning folks!
Anyway, he seems a very likeable young man and sings well too.

I think a lot of people have forgotten that "Pop Idol " was the start of this type of show. Personally , I preferred that format, because with the X-factor, the judges influence comes in on who stays and who goes--and obviously they will not send their own act home. !!
