Hi Marian, Eddie Fisher was around in the Fifties, another great crooner. we have got a fair bit of his music but these Coke shows have been provided and presented on gmmy radio, plus some other singers by a lovely gent from here in the UK. So that's nice.
Marian, we didn't see Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds in "Bundle Of Fun" but Debbie is a talented actress. Al Martino and Debbie did some shows together about a year and a half ago.

Hello Lena and Harry, Mariana44 and all. We have been talking about Singin' In The Rain on another page, and Debbie Reynold's is mentioned above. Do you know that Singin' In The Rain was Debbies first major starring role in a film, and Gene Kelly thought she was too young and too inexperienced for her part in the film. Gene Kelly was a very hard task master during the making of the film, as he was a perfectionist as you can well imagine, being as talented as he was at dancing, singing and acting. Both co-stars Debbie Reynold's and Donald O'Connor didn't get on very well with Gene, during the making of the film or afterward's I believe, as he was really pushing them all the time, but the result's were worth it in the end.
In fact Debbie Reynold's feet were bleeding after she took her shoes off after one day's rehearsing and shooting on the film. Debbie had to be at the studio at 5.45 a.m. during filming.!!!! So you can imagine the state her feet were in after a full day's shooting, especially with her not being used to any dancing roles before.
One day Fred Astaire found Debbie on the set of the film, she was a little upset. Debbie explained the situation, and Fred being ever the gentleman he was, helped Debbie with some of her dance routines for the film.
Mariana44, I know you love "Carousel", but did you know that Gordon MacRae was an alcoholic at the time Carousel was being made, it was a shock to me. Also during filming he was arrested for drink driving. It eventually led to his downfall in the film business, but he carried on with his successful singing career in cabaret and club's. In the 70's he became a reformed alcoholic and helped other people with that problem in his charitable work.

HI Robert---yes I did know that "Singing in the rain" was Debbie Reynolds first film, but I did not know all the other stuff. I expect you know that she had her own show in Las Vegas--it may be on still, I am not sure. When I was there I never had time to get to see her, but I hear that she did a terrific show.
I certainly had never heard of Gordon Macrae being an alcoholic, although the only other film I can remember him being in was "Oklahoma".
I know that he made some other recordings. And I know he died several years ago, so it was good to hear that he was able to use his experiences to help others.
Thanks for all that interesting information, Robert.

We both knew that we had heard of Ray Price and so, back to our discussion of the song " For the Good Times" we have discovered that we do have Ray Price's recording on a box set of Million Dollar Memories and agree with Paul that it is a lovely rendition. Ray Price had his first Gold disc for a million seller in 1956with a Country tune "Crazy Arms" and "For The Good Times" was a second. Words and music by Kris Kristofferson.
Gordon Macrae was another favourite singer of ours and very handsome, and a good actor too. He began at first to play piano, clarinet and saxophone, but soon began co-starring in Musicals with stars like Doris Day, Jane Powell and made lots of duet recordings with Jo Stafford.
He died from cancer of the mouth and jaw at the age of 64.

Hello Harry and Lena et. al. - I'm pleased to read that you have a recording of Ray Price's For The Good Times and agree that it's beautiful.
Yesterday, for the Fourth Of July, I thought I should listen to American artists. So I pulled out my Kirby Stone 4 CD of happy, older songs and standards. They recorded a peppy version of Baubles Bangles and Beads --- a great sing-along recording. I love it! Was the Kirby Stone 4 popular in the U.K.? Have you heard their version of Baubles Bangles and Beads? They also recorded a great version of Fugue for Tinhorns from Guys and Dolls.

Gray, Paul, Robert, firstly--yes, I love Oklahoma too--one of the greats.
I am not sure if I have heard of the Kirby Stone 4---they sound kind of familiar--I love the song "Baubles Bangles and Beads" from"Kismet", of course, and "Fugue for Tinhorns" from the wonderful "Guys and Dolls"--
I will try to track this group down.

Hi Paul---Kirby Stone 4 are proving very elusive---I tracked down one Lp, an Ebay, but none of the big record sites had anything at all.
