Going back to my first post...................I have to say I still think it is misleading, because if anyone is considering purchasing the CD, reads on the sleeve notes that the song comes from the Honda advert........gets home with the CD, play's the song...............then finds out it is NOT the actual version of the song use in the advert..................they will not be best pleased, will they ??

Hi Lee,

There are actually two original Mastertapes for Unchained Melody. One in mono and one in stereo. These are both the same take and edit. I have the stereo master for The Greatest.

It has appeared in stereo before on a dutch compilation (But a different edit - where this edit comes from I don't know as it's not in the UK archives and the US version is the same as the UK). The only other CD it has appeared on is the readers digest set, where it has been mastered a semitone too slow!

Going back to my first post.

This is a tracklisting as everything stands at present.

The Honda Ad is on our listing - How EMI wish to market it is up to them. It probably won't even appear on the packaging, It's on our listing as a reason for inclusion - This compilation is many months away from completion, I haven't even got all the masters yet! No sleeve notes are written, No artwork fully completed etc etc.

Let's not get worked up over a couple of words on an early tracklisting.

Richard

No, certainly no need to get worked up about it, but just wondering why Honda had to be written alongside this song at all. It had already been established that it wasn't Matt singing on the advert.
A number of artists have recorded "The Impossible Dream," but wouldn't have Honda written by the side of that listed track recording.
Just another instance they used Earth Kitt's " Come on a 'My House " on this advert, but C.S.L, Sofas Winter Sale.. would have caused confusion on Rosemary Clooneys CD.
We're gonna enjoy this CD

Hi Richard

Many thanks for the info. I've never heard Matt's version of Unchained Melody in stereo before, so I shall look forward to doing so when the CD is released.

Best wishes.

But I didn't propose Ethel Baby for the Greatest CD. It would be on my CD of favourites, but I recognise that it is perhaps a special taste and not appropriate for The Greatest. I think it's one of his greatest performances though ... so much that I would name my daughter Ethel.

On my track listing, I forgot to include When Love Comes Along, which was a moderate hit. I didn't include Can This Be Love, as it was part of a double A single, but CTBL is more for a sophisticated audience.

I agree Harry and Lena--I think Ethel is one of the last names that I would ever choose.

The name Ethel always reminds me now, of the lady from Eastenders, with her dog called W.illey :)

I'm with you Marianna, Ethel Baby is amoungst my least favourite songs recorded by Matt. The voice is impeccable as always but the song just drags.

Thought I'd just throw in my thoughts on the great "Ethel Baby" debate. I listened to it last night and it didn't register anything for me, so I'm with the nay-ers on this. Other songs on the same album such as "Curiouser and Curiouser", "The Me I Never Knew" and "Sarah's Coming Home" are much better.

Also Ethel is a pretty awful name to call a baby and I can't believe any parent would do this in this day and age - would they?

Well the only feasable reason I could think of is of an older wealthy family member who has this name has unwittingly suggested that someone could benefit by being lumbered with this name
