The same goes for us as far as Jonathon Ross is concerned. This is a man who has scooped Sony awards for radio and TV work, etc.
How anyone who is just basically vulgar, can't pronounce his words, has no talent and no charisma can warrant being paid these huge sums of money such as he gets. It's nothing but an insult to licence payers.
It all just proves there's hope for anyone with these similar so called qualities .

Lena, I thought you were talking about me until I read the words "paid huge sums of money" :)

We know what you mean Gray. Somebody on the internet described Wossey as having a lisp,.....we didn't know that  so with another hidden talent, maybe we have been a little harsh and mis-judged him.

Just caught her singing 'I am what I am!' - hows that for timing! Will have to see there is a podcast of her set, as she got thunderous applause at the end, and was lapping it up! What an amazing performer.

Robert - you are right that Wossie's R2 show morning show is very different from that on BBC tv Friday night. I also heard the delightful interview with Julie Andrews on the radio and theres no doubt in my mind he is a talented presenter. And he can't swear at 11am on a Saturday morning!
Michael

Here I go again, I hear those trumpets blow again.......

This was Shirley Bassey at her dynamic best. Absolutely brilliant.
She arrived at Glastonbury by helicopter complete with wellies.
No one could deny on this occasion that her voice and the power was as good as ever.
She appeared on stage in a pink frothy dress designed to allow the inevitible leg show that we expect from our Shirl, and started off with" Lets Get This Party Started," followed by "Come On Baby Light My Fire"
"Diamonds Are Forever" with the crowds chanting Shirley Shirley
She then said ...to the Arctic Monkeys...That's how it's done.
"Big Spender "was then followed by "The Living Tree" sang superbly.
No one was short changed. The medley followed with "The Lady Is A Tramp." ... Maybe This Time....I Never Never Want To Be In Love ....... As I Love You....and as Mike said finally ..... I Am What I Am.
Great performance Shirl..

Thanks Lena & Harry!

Thank you for the report Lena and Harry!

Did you notice the few mistakes she made probably due to nerves?

She also came out early and caught the presenter by surprise, right?

I still haven't had a chance to watch it online on the site.

Lena and Harry, as always, got it right! I didn't see the whole segment but what I saw was pure class! 70 years old - never!! The voice gets even better with age! Talking of age - what about Tony Bennett getting married last Thursday (thanks to Mark Fox for the info!) I sang San Fran last night, within my 23 songs in Carmarthen, and it always goes down well! Thanks Tone and have a great honeymoon!

I bet Shirley's dressing room was a damn site plusher than the one we saw Paul Weller in yesterday   does anyone know how old Tony Bennett's new wife is :?:

Hi Terence. on one of Shirley's songs she was hesitant with some words and although we didn't particularly notice sound problems on our TV, it seemed that the sound system around the grounds were causing problems, (although we didn't know about this until later) and the reaction from the crowd may have been her reason for this, but we didn't see any sign of nerves.
Strangely enough, on Two of her last TV appearances we wondered if this was the end of the powerhouse belters. Her choice of songs on both occasions seemed to be telling us that this is what to expect.
After her last song, the band struck up and played what seemed rather an extra length in time and we were expecting Shirley to come back out for that final applause, and we felt that the band were expecting this too. But she didn't. She drank some water from a glass during the show and said that she'll be having some champagne after. Perhaps she'd spotted that.
We thought she was terrific anyway.

Sarah Kennedy mentioned Shirley this morning on her Radio 2 show.
Mark, yes Shirley did have a lucky escape and the helicopter had to make an emergency landing in the school grounds.

Sarah went on to say that one of the national newspapers carried the story today. Shirley apparently got out of the helicopter wearing her wellies and asked to use the toilet! Then she said that she wouldn't mind a nice cup of tea!

A true star would only do that, keep calm and ask for a cup of tea.
If it had been me in the helicopter then I would have asked for a gin and tonic!

And after that terrifying experience, her visit to the loo and a cuppa, there she is posing for pictures with the local people.
What a trooper.
