Hello all. I hope I am going to be paid for all this secretarial work I am doing Marian

While I am here I may as well tell you that Donny Hathaway was born in Chicago (another one from Chicago Marian). Born October 1st 1945 passed away Jan 13th 1979. Was found to have committed suicide after several bouts of depression, for which he has been hospitalised

Hio Terence and Robert---you are quite right, it was Marvin Gaye duetting with Diana Ross. I get those 2 muddled up---they both died in strange circumstances, as Robert pointed out in his last posting about Donny Hathaway--and I believe that Marvin Gaye was shot dead by his father---or am I thinking again of someone else.

Yes Marvin Gaye did pass away in those circumstances Marian.

At the moment, I am listening to my Itunes-and it is Fleetwood Mac with "Little Lies".

Fleetwood Mac? I guess we shouldn't hold that against you, Marian.

I'm just so tired of them, except for Dreams, which I could listen to forever.

If I had just spent a lovely day in a small English town with a village green and maybe even a duck pond, I would come back home and listen to Chanson de Matin or the Enigma Variations by Sir Edward Elgar.

Hi Paul---I was not actually listening to "Fleetwood Mac"--they just happened to come on at that time on my Ipod. But yes, I can see what you mean--and I could definately have done with something a bit more soothing to listen to.

At the moment, good old Itunes is playing Emma Bunton--"What took you so long". I just have all sorts of music on there--apart from any classical music. We used to listen to a lot of classical music--mainly James Last, which I have a feeling you may not think much of---but he made classical music very easy to listen to. Although I rarely listen now.

I never got interested in James Last's music. He never became very popular in the US. I know that Edgar enjoys James Last's music very much and goes to an event every year in Germany I believe. Lena and Harry mentioned Mantovani the other day. He did excellent light arrangements of classical music as did Percy Faith from Canada, whose arrangements were very lush. Even Ray Conniff did some interesting takes on classical themes. I also liked Paul Mauriat's arrangements of classical themes.

I'm really enjoying this new(?) trumpeter that Sarah Kennedy has been featuring after Pause For Thought. Her name is Alison Balsom and this morning Sarah played the Queen of the Night aria from The Magic Flute.

Hi Robert--yes I do agree about "Albatross" and Fleetwood Mac---but when I listen to my Itunes, I always have it on Random, so I never know what is going to be on next--at the moment it is the wonderful Bobby Darin singing "More"---one of the best versions of this song I have heard---along with Matt's of course.

The James Last Orchestra has quite a following of fans all over Europe and although we don't play his music that often- preferring the Big Band Sound to the predominately string, he provides good mixed entertaining sounds.
He was in Germany earlier this year to conduct music for a concert with Al Martino.
We agree with Marian on her choice of George Michael's songs, and like many artists he made bad ones too.
Well Bobby Darin can do no wrong as far as we're concerned. and then Matt's recording of "More" is without any doubt the best recording ever of this popular song.

When I was a lad I always confused More with Telstar by the Tornados! The melody is somewhat similar. Perhaps the Tornados recorded More sometime. I loved Telstar and all those hit instrumentals from the 1950s and 1960s. Sadly, there are hardly any new instrumental hit recordings these days. I can't even recall the last hit instrumental.

Yes Paul we can see what you mean about the similarity with More and Telstar. The Tornados were the first British group to top the American charts and sold Five Million copies worldwide.
We didn't realise at the time that there was also a group in America with the name "The Tornadoes"
