Thanks for the song list Marian. I did not quite expect Jack to sing IF I COULD, a song sung to perfection by Regina Belle and covered by Barbra in Higher Ground.

I like the way he starts the concert with A Song For You, thus setting the mood for an intimate supper-club ambience.

To hear "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" live by Jack Jones must be an unforgettable experience. Can his voice still soar when he sings "I want to see your face in every kind of light"?

That song list sounds great--I love Jack singing "She Loves You".

On his interview on Breakfast TV, he was talking about making a dvd--I guess that show, or similar would be ideal material-have you heard anything about that, Marian ?

Yes Terence, it's amazing, but his voice still soars to perfection. He stopped singing this song for a while as he sang it at his wedding to Kim, but he has now brought it back, which is great.

No more news yet about the dvd Marian, but as Jack mentioned it is planned to commemorate his 50th Anniversary, hopefully it will be this year, which is actually his 51st!

Marian

If I ever try to encapsulate Jack Jones in a nutshell, it will have to be "CLASS personified".

:?: How long has it been since Jack Jones included Girl Talk and I Believe In You in his concerts? I'm thinking he may have stopped singing Girl Talk in the late 1960s. It's such a great Neal Hefti number, but a very 60s vibe. It's one of my five favourite JJ songs.

I don't think I've ever heard either of those live Paul, and I've seen Jack live every UK tour since 1983.

Thanks for the answer Marian. That's a shame actually, because they are two of his best vocals. I would rather hear them than the Bread songs. (I'm not really big on 70s covers. I can't imagine hearing anyone but David Gates singing Make It With You.)

Girl Talk is on several JJ albums Paul.
Lady, and the others are compilation albums. Simply Jack Jones, Featuring JJ and Jane Morgan, Golden Greats, Nice'n'Easy, Best of, Love Songs, and JJ Entertains.
I Believe in You is on She Loves Me, and Best Of.

Jack Jones's artistry is of such a high standard that I simply love to hear him sing complex melodies like the Michel Legrand songbook. With due respect to David Gates, the Bread songs are fluff and too simple for Jack with the possible exception of IF.

:?: Sorry for yet another question Marian. Did Jack Jones ever perform Watch What Happens or If You Go Away at any of the concerts you and Peter attended? (Another two of my favourites.)

(Also, I Believe In You and She Loves Me are both on my Entertains CD.)

Hi Paul,
I don't think so, not Watch what Happens anyway, I think he possibly has sung If You Go Away....beautiful song.
Sorry I can't be more specific.
Jack does tour here every eighteen months, so some of the earlier song lists have faded with the years.

He sings Watch What Happens with such emotion, and uses the "Terence Lee" approach of flatting some of the notes for a special jazz/blues effect. I love how he starts the song with no intro.

Hi Paul

How I wish that was my approach or technique.

I must have picked it up from listening to competent song stylists like Jack Jones and Nancy Wilson or some blues singers. It's definitely not from Liza Minnelli. She's sometimes flat .......unintentionally!
