By the way--I have just spotted an advert on tv. that they are doing a month long season of Carousel at the Barbican until 15th September--I would give anything to go--but just now, I have a very painful knee and find it hard to walk more than a few yards.

I'm very sorry to hear about your bad knee, Mariana! I hope you make a full recovery, soon.

Stones, Neil Diamond, 1971, MCA

(imo, the most exquisitely beautiful LP Neil recorded (or that anyone recorded that year, maybe). Unlike most of his LPs, most of the songs were written by other great songwriters, and I think in each case, Neil's is the best recording of each of those songs.
Beautiful, and never wears out.

Do you know if there was ever a DVD of this Carousel, the London Cast that you love?
I see Amazon UK has it on CD, but I'd rather have the whole production on DVD if they filmed it?
Now I see it was a Cameron McIntosh production, who also brought us Les Mis that we love so much.
It does sound pretty special.

Lindy, all the Joni Mitchell albums are really good. My eldest sister use to listen to them all the time along with Carly Simon so when I hear them I think of my sister!!

HI Lindy---no there was never a dvd of that production--I would have given anything if there was. Cameron Mackintosh also did productions of
"Guys and Dolls" starring the previously mentioned Joanna Riding, whi I saw twice, and also "Oklahoma" with the lovely Hugh Jackman as Curly-which I also saw--that was the only production that was made into a film/dvd.[All at the National theatre]

I am a huge fan of anything Cameron Mackintish does-he is amazing 1

I need to hear this Carousel you've put me on to. Shame about no filming of the play, must've been awesome!
Read a couple critics reviews on Amazon and they agree with you that as good as the movie cast was, that this one is the "definitive", and of course includes music/scenes that were cut from the movie. Wowee wow WOW!

You know reading about "Carousel", I have to admit I didn't know about it until I found out Shirley Jones (Mrs. Partridge) was in it. So I watched the movie as a kid and loved it, and even had my folks buy me the lp!! Then I got into stuff like the Music Man and all the others. I did however like The Sound of Music and loved the movie except when they are riding around town in their "curtain" clothes. LOL

I hope you also saw and heard "Shirley Partridge" with Gordon MacRae in Oklahoma. They were maybe even better together in that one, and Rod Steiger gave a TREMENDOUS performance as the "villian" that anyone with a heart could empathize with. Oklahoma is a bit more upbeat than Carousel, but equally beautiful music and it's Rogers and Hammerstein again.

Me soooooooooooooooooo LOVE Robert Preston in Music Man, Victor Victoria, and now "Ben Franklin in Paris".
But I'm repeating myself from an earlier post, oh oh.....

I am so pleased Lindy--I hope you will not be disappointed--I love the bench scene on "If I loved you"--not in the film, and the reprise of "When I marry Mr Snow." I will be interested in your comments. And dpon't get me wrong, i really love the film version too.

Plus Oklahoma--in this case, I think the original soundtrack is the best.

Lindy, yes I saw everything she was in, back in my Partridge days. Except Elmer Gantry until I was older. I couldn't fathom Mrs. Partridge as a "lady of the evening"

BTW..The Sound of Music, I love singing the songs while I drive and I have someone from work riding with me. It freaks them out that I'd listen to it and know all the words.

Bay City Rollers - Greatest Hits . Listening to it right now. Only the best version of and no offense to Dusty "I Only Want To Be Wtih You" ever!! Hands down in my book. This song was perfect for them and they could have been the original artists if it was written for them. I would put "The Tourists" version a close second with Anne Lennox's vocals..but for me it's The BCR's all the way and I'd say "Dusty, Who?"
