Special Days In May

Seeing that we are such a close knit family, I thought it would be nice if you let us know the dates in the year that are special to you.

So Ruby is a Sinatra fan too, I have an old friend called Peggy who loves Frank and shook his hand outside the Albert Hall - she saw him as often as she could in concert and I constantly look for cd's & dvd's I can give her - she will be 92 later this year and still a live-wire!

Good for Peggy Karl. My friend and I saw Frank Sinatra at the Albert Hall, and standing outside among the crowds before the concert, I've never experienced the atmosphere created or the buzz just waiting to see this one man. :)

Ruby and Peggy sound like 2 amazing ladies. My friend Audrey is amost 87--Ruby and Peggy may consider her a spring chicken--but she still drives every day-in fact we have just been out to Bewl Bridge Reservoir, wher Audrey
wanted to book up a meal next month for 20 ladies in our luncheon club, she arranges it nearly all, the lifts etc etc---I just help her a little.

She also knits, cross-stitches, makes cards, and I have just taught her how to do diagonal crochet. In the past she arranged for everyone in the craft group to fill shoe boxes to send to deprived children in Eastern Europe, plus asked us to knit jumpers and hats and vests for children in Africa--plus arranged the collection and delivery of them all. Someone else does it now, but Audrey did it for many years-plus she takes me shopping every Monday-she is a totally amazing lady. But she does not seem to like music !!

That was how Peggy and I met through the Sinatra Society as I ran the Edinburgh branch for awhile. I saw the great man at the Albert Hall in 1977 and it was sheer magic. I will never forget it.

Peggy had to terminate her membership to the society as she can no longer read the magazines as the print is too small. She was such an avid reader and she misses that, in the past she's been to Las Vegas & Palm Springs with us.

Peggy and Audrey sound like great ladies and survivors too :D

More things unique about Ruby -she absolutely would NEVER EVER be seen wearing a pair of trousers :) She can't believe that no one has heard of her birthday May 24th being EMPIRE DAY :)
She will more often than not turn off 'the rubbish' that is on TV,Put Sinatra on her player and dance holding on to the radiator to remember the days when she could dance!
Today when we deliver her shopping we will leave her watching the new Sinatra DVD,one of her birthday presents as the wonders of the DVD machine are beyond her

I have heard of Empire Day, I remember because it is the day after my sister Carole's birthday.
But I agree, it does seem to be ignored generally.

Does John sing along with Frank too-and if so, how does Ruby feel about that !

I remember the Empire Games too. They held them in Cardiff when I was young.
I suppose it isn't remembered these days as the days of the Empire are long past.

We remember Empire Day. My Sister and I would go to school with our hair tied in a Red, White And Blue Ribbon bow. Children would turn up in their Scout, Girl Guide and Life Brigade uniforms and we would all assemble in the school hall and salute the Union Jack. :)
