Always so very sad when anyone dies young.
I remember Lillian Board very well too Robert. Thank you for the link to her story.

Hi Robert and Marian, another tragic story of a great young athlete and a lovely person. We met Lilian Board when she was a guest at a reception held for the astronaughts at No 10 Downing Street .
Harry was asked to choose a boy from his club to be a guest and represent his club. The guests all came outside during the evening and Lilian came over and asked us for some directions that she needed, and we asked her how she enjoyed the evening. She looked so healthy and attractive.
It was very soon after this that she was taken ill. Robert we also remember how dreadfully ill she looked on tv, she had the same Birthday as our son and we remember too that her Birthday with her family in the hospital was cancelled. She died just a few days after.

Hi Robert---I believe that Crohns disease is related to Bowel cancer- I had a friend of mine die from it just last month.

Hi all,
Crohn's Disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines.
I would not like anyone to think it as always fatal. Some minor cases do not even require treatment. It is not cancer.
In some severe cases, ulcers in the intestine caused by the disease may penetrate the wall of the intestine, and in these cases matter from the bowel can cause peritonitis which could prove very serious, and in some instances could prove fatal.
Sorry for discussing such serious matters on the forum, but I didn't want anyone to be worrying unnecessarily.

Hi Marian--thanks for clearing that up--obviously, I only went on what I had read, so it is good to get a professional view.

Lovely to see a beautiful picture of Alma Cogan fronting the current issue of "IN TUNE" magazine that arrived today.
A superb article about Alma and description of the wonderful DVD by Gerry Stonestreet, who , like those of us who remember this fantastic lady find it hard to believe that it is Forty years since her passing.
This issue contains all the usual features. Excellent value.

Enjoyed reading the interesting article on Alma in "Spotlight on" this month.
Also enjoyed seeing the trailer of the DVD, and have ordered a copy.

Have just bought the 'Celebration' boxed CD set, 75 tracks for £7! What a bargain, and what a wonderful collection of songs. From the classics like 'Dreamboat', 'Sugartime', 'Hernandos Hideway', 'Can't tell a waltz from a tango', 'Never tango with an eskimo', which were all from the 50s I think. Then the pop tracks from the 60s start, and I'm guessing that Alma had some connection with EMIs Norrie Parramor during this period as many of the tracks sound similar to some by Helen Shapiro who Norrie also produced. in fact, I could have sworn that 'Tell him' was sung by Helen, but maybe I was wrong! Anyway, the frothy pop tracks are punctuated by some beautiful slower tunes, including 'Fly me to the moon' complete with its refrain, which I never knew it even had! A very emotional rendition of 'As long as he needs me' (complete with a Cockney accent!), a groovy twist to 'More', swinging versions of 'Help!' and 'I feel fine', all topped off by a smashing cover of 'Taking a chance' on love (with yet another additional verses - - but with the return of 'brother rabbit you can kiss your foot goodbye!). Add in a generous quantity of fantastic covers such as 'You do something to me', 'I get a kick out of you' and...... you know what.... its so cheap - just go out and buy it! you will not regret it!

Mike--I was about to suggest that you change jobs and go into selling--but then I realised that is what you do anyway
You convinced me--no sooner read, than I logged into Amazon---and one-clicked it !!
A lot of the songs you mentioned just sound so familiar to me-and take me back in time-although I have a feeling that it was Billie Davis who sang "Tell him"--but I could be wrong.
The verse to "Fly me to the Moon" has been praised on this forum elsewhere--I had to admit that the first time I heard it, at a Johnny Mathis concert, I had no idea of the song that was to follow
I do have Alma singing "More" now, but it will be good to get another version of "Taking a chance on Love". It always seems to sound good, whoever sings it--did you ever get to hear Rod Stewarts Version??

Hi Marian - no still not heard that version by Rod. Alma's 3rd verse starts 'Here I slip again' I think.
Anyway, you will enjoy this collection marian!

Glad that you think i'm in the right job - so do I!
