Re: Jack Jones
Scotdisc does not accept credit card or Paypal orders. So I guess I have to be patient with Amazon UK.
Re: Jack Jones
I don't know where you saw that Terence as I paid by Paypal today!
I was actually taken to paypal at the checkout. Postage is also free worldwide!

Re: Jack Jones
Thanks for the info Marian. I better cancel my Amazon order and order straight from the Scottish site. Hopefully the great response from Jack's fans will encourage the label to release more of Jack's RCA recordings.
Re: Jack Jones
I also paid by Paypal-it just took me straight there, although I had not seen it on the site.

Re: Jack Jones
Marian......you are the JJ expert.
Do you think Country House selected the best songs from Harbour & The Good Life? Would you have picked the same songs if you were compiling the CD? I am quite disappointed the opening track on Harbour.....Here's To Love......was not selected. I like that song a lot.
Jack sang it so well.

Re: Jack Jones
Hi Terence-speaking as a JJ non-expert-I agree with you about "Here's to love"--definately deserved to be on there--however, I do not appear to have "The good life" in my collection--did it appear under another name ??
Maybe that is why I have never heard JJ sing "God only knows" Before.

Re: Jack Jones
Terence meant The Full Life Marian, it was released on CD in Japan in 2000, but I think it can be bought here now. There are five tracks from it on the new album including God Only Knows.
Like both of you I would have liked to have seen Here's to Love on the new disc. Most of the others I'm quite happy with, but I'm not too keen on Do Me Wrong from what I remember, I haven't played Harbour in a while.

Re: Jack Jones
Thanks Marian-i just found that tucked away--I still cannot remember JJ singing "God only knows" so that is going to be my bedtime listening tonight.
I do not like "Do me wrong" either--I also have it on a JM album-I do not like it there either.

Re: Jack Jones
I am with both of you. I don't like Do Me Wrong But Do Me. This Alan O' Day composition is meant to be cute and fun but none of the versions I heard have endeared me to the song.
Re: Jack Jones
In spite of the postal strike I was over the moon to receive my CD today, an extra birthday bonus! The quality and clarity are excellent, the back cover and photo are good, but the rest looks as if it's been put together a little hastily to say the least.
No real sleeve notes either, just a few comments and quotes. No mention that this is a compilation of songs from earlier albums and just a mention of 'premastering'.
Overall though, I am pleased to add this to my JJ collection.

Re: Jack Jones
Hi Marian
Glad to hear that the CD sounds good/clear and not mastered from vinyl. Is there no mention in the sleeve notes that the songs are compiled from the RCA albums Harbour and The Full Life? What about year of recording?

Re: Jack Jones
No mention Terence, just a list of the songs, the writers and the musicians. No year of recording or release date either.

Re: Jack Jones
I was surprised to have mine arrive yesterday-despite having only ordered it the other day, combined with the postal strike.
I think the front cover is is less than flattering to JJ, and by choosing a current picture it could incorrectly persuade casual cd buyers that these are new recordings from JJ.
Vey little information--just one double sided piece of paper in the front--however, I love the actual cd-this is the JJ I am accustomed to listening to-and I thought it was actually a really nice selection of songs--bearing in mind that "Harbour" has been one of my favouite albums since---well, when I first bought it --way way back.
One small piece of information that I had not spotted before which quite surprised me--the song "Harbour" was written by Peter Allen, who was once married to Liza Minelli--his name is not often heard on this forum, but he was a talented composer-he also wrote "Another Rio" that JJ sings, plus "Fly Away" which was a BIG concert favourite of Johnny Mathis.
