London Pride, written by Noel Coward
The Mountains of Mourne, written by Percy French
The Black Hills of Dakota, by Doris Day.

Of course I am well qualified to come up with oldies.

Thanks for the info about 'apocope' Keith. I just thought it was called American English!
I think you'll find we've had most of your list though already, sorry. :?

Hi Marian
Apologies for the duplications; I guess the nets
of my old trawler need urgent mending. My 'sole'
subsequent catch amounts to a meagre:

Mull of Kintyre

If you tell me I must also throw that one back,
then desperate times call for desperate measures:

Mother Kelly's Doorstep

I think we have had "The Mull of Kintyre"---but I am also sure that we have not had "On Mother Kelly's Doorstep", which I suppose could--loosely---be a Geographical Place Name.

Very clever, Keith !!

Golly - is this one still going - I think this must be the longest thread on here. And I started it  I feel quite proud!

Hi Marian(a)
I seem to arrive at the song-title fishing grounds
when stocks are exhausted, and I further handicap
myself by using nets of the wrong mesh. However,
I won't consign my old trawler to the dry dock just yet.
It is great fun trying to compete with such experienced
and congenial fisher folk.

Hi Marian(a)
The Irish equivalent to Mother Kelly's Doorstep
is a song called, The Stone Outside Dan Murphy's Door.
A tuneful melody in three-quarter time extolling
the social scene of singsongs and even dances.
It seems Dan Murphy was a host par excellence.
I'm sure you agog on hearing this important news.

:) Here's a song on the new Coldplay album:

Lovers in Japan

Yes, Michael ... this is a long lasting thread. There will always be new song with geographic places! 8)

I dug this old quiz back again for 'Summertime in Heidlberg' which I think came from The Student Prince.
