Don Black on Radio 2
Re: Don Black on Radio 2
I think that Don has been the perfect replacement for David Jacobs--hope he can be persuaded to stay.

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Don played Matt's rather unusual and almost soulful song tonight "My Friend My Friend" and said that Matt was his best friend.
Another enjoyable selection of songs including Jack Jones lovely version of " Call Me Irresponsible". Don payed a nice tribute to David Jacobs and played a song that he knew was one of David's favourites .. "I Won't Send Roses." sung by Robert Preston.

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
I said a while back it would take a few weeks for Don to catch up with the passing of David Jacobs, as Dons show is pre-recorded well in advance
............nice that Don said Matt was his best friend on air
............Don said Jack Jones was one of the best singers around
..........the Liberace story was very funny, I could just imagine it

Don has just played Matt's ..." Who Can I Turn To " and after the song added the words .. The Marvellous Matt Monro, and Marian, hope you are still awake, Don is playing JM singing "Love Look Away "
Don also said some lovey complimentry things about JM.

I heard Matt--but no, I did not hear JM--"Love look away is so beautiful, he used to include it in his concerts at one time.

We listened to Don Black today and really enjoyed it.

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Their is a letter in this weeks Radio Times praising Don : '' When we lost David Jacobs on Sunday night Radio 2,.it was if I had lost a dear friend.I was so pleased to have found a new one in Don Black.Quiet manner, gentle reminiscences and beautiful music make Sunday nights enjoyable again. Please persuade Don to stay''. Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Well I could hardly disagree, when Don is playing one of my all time favourites of Matt's... I have Dreamed " recorded by many but this recording is incomparable.
Don spoke of the Matchlesss Matt Monro and said, Matt never sang a bad song.
Well Don has yet to present a bad programme. He never disappoints.

I did get to hear Matt last night---just lovely---but I did not hear much else--I have a really heavy head cold just now, so went right off to sleep after Matt.
