Riots, looting & burning in London
Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
My sister called me today--she works in Putney, and in her lunch hour went over the bridge to do some shoPping. While still in the shop, she heard a commotion outside, and saw several people gathering out there---then 2 policemen appeared, waving their arms around. Poor Jill felt really nervous---but when she ventured out, she saw all the traffic stopped--with a duck crossing the road, followed by 12 little baby ducklings--all making their way down to the river.
A very sweet contrast to all the awful news lately.

Thats a lovely story Marian. Like you say, such a change from the recent awful events.
Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
Two young people have been jailed for four years each, for writing messages on facebook for enticing riots ...............BRAVO I say
....................and no, you do not need to be poor to be a trouble causer, as Bryan Ferry's (Roxy Music) son, who must have a few bob in the bank was jailed for rioting during the Student protests.

Nice to hear that Robert. Finally a little peace and redemption for good ol' London!
Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
However, I see on Ceefax today, that these sentences are thought to be TOO HARSH--by some politicians. !!
When will they learn--not until it is their home burnt down, and their livelihoods lost ,or their families killed or injured, i guess !!!!!

It must be difficult to get sentencing right. Apparently these two were encouraging people to riot but nobody responded. What then do you sentence the ones to who actually rioted and smashed and burned property?

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
But how do we--or anyone -know if they encouraged anyone to riot--even if they may not have responded on Facebook ??

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
As you say Marian it would be a different story if politcians homes were burned, however they would probably just add it to their expenses!!!

That will certainly be nice to meet up next time Gray. Hope you all enjoyed your visit to London.

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
Maybe, those of us who don't live too far away could have a little get-together Gray. We did this once before. It would be good to see you again, and meet the family.

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
Agreed, that would be terrific.
I would love to see you all once more.
We had a fab time in London, the highlight being a trip around the Houses of Parliament.
It was so educational and we all loved it, including my two munchkins aged 6 & 9!

So pleased to hear you had a lovely time Gray. Your 'munchkins' are growing up fast!

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
I came across a song today with some great lines that the rioters should listen to, the song is called Life Is A Song Worth Singing by Johnny Mathis and the lyrics in question are:-
"So You Sit On Your Pants And Holler
'Cause The World Ain't Been Treating You Right"
Seems quite appropriate, doesn't it?
