Yes Lena and Harry, Julie Andrews is a star. Connie will be a star one day, absolutely no doubt about that, well she is a celebrity already 8)

If you hadn't slept in Marian you would have seen Connie on TV this morning  I was awake very early this morning, which is quite unusual for me, as my "smoke alarm" kept me awake nearly all night "bleeping" very loudly, the bug......er

Hi Marian

If you missed the Breakfast TV show this morning on BBC1, I think it is available as a podcast.

Cheers

Gray :)

I just have to say this is such an interesting series of messages. And I only got to see one of the early shows (August 5). I would like to hear Connie sing. Perhaps I can find a clip on the internet.

I certainly hope that Daddy Cool doesn't flop, Jon. That's on my list of shows/concerts to see while I'm in London for the Fans Reunited week-end. I read that in addition to featuring the wonderful songs by Boney M, it also features the hits of Milli Vanilli and No Mercy. I've been listening to Where Do You Go by No Mercy a lot over the week-end to get excited about seeing this show. I also would like see The Sound Of Music when I'm there, but Daddy Cool ranks higher.

Hasn't the Matt Monro Forum enriched our lives?! Even topics that I don't understand or know anything about are interesting to read. For example, I'm not current with the Maria contest anymore. And reading about football is like reading a foreign language, but it's actually in English! But I still find it interesting!

Hi everyone--and Gray--thanks for the information re the Podcast--I had been wondering if it would be anywhere--but you gave me the incentive to look--and I found it--and watched it! I amazed myself, as I had not done that before.

Paul--you are so right about this forum--there is always something new to learn, about so many things. I love it !!!

Here is a web-site with details of booking etc for The Sound of Music.
The prices are inclusive of booking fees when you book through SEE.

Was speaking to a friend of friend whose friend is the producer of Sound of Music. Its all been very interesting, as they had to line up another star, in case the winner of 'HDSAPLM' wasn't up to it! Now that Connie has won (who seems to have been the preferred choice), they are worrying about how they can get out of the contract that this other leading actress has apparently already signed!

Glad Connie won, as she is the most natural looking, and clearly very talented

Hi Mike. It serves the producers right to be in such a predicament. They should have had faith, that the winner of the show would have been good enough to carry off the role of Maria. If they were so concerned about it, they shouldn't have gone through the rigmarole of the HDYSAPLM show in the first place, and should have just picked a well known actress for the role

I agree with Robert, but from their side of things, they didn't want a Martine McCutcheon type scenario, where an excellent singer couldn't handle the rigour of all those live performances. With the amount of money involved in putting on a live show like this, I guess they needed an insurance policy.

Mike, Yes we remember that with My Fair Lady, it's a big gamble and they have already had one scare as we've mentioned before with Scarlett Johansson who was considered for the part wanting diva-like treatment that included two minders. Can you imagine what she was asking.

:D I could tell there was something wrong when Connie kept going on about how much she wanted to do all the performances when she was interviewed for morning telly. She deserves to as she's the real star now. I agree with Richard it does serve them right!!

I so much want to go!

Hi Amanda, we shall probably book to see it but we will perhaps think of choosing a day other than Matinee days, that may have more assurance of seeing Connie, just in case of a switch from afternoon to evening.
We would be so disappointed not to see her. It wouldn't have the same appeal.

Its an excellent scheme they hit on when all said and done! Picking a totally unknown person is risky (although it paid off for Mary Poppins), picking a known name also has problems (like the aforementioned My Fair Lady and Scarlett Johannsen), and presumably the star would want to command a big fee. So. whip up public support by involving them in choosing an unknown to star! I bet they've had loads of bookings since last Saturday night! But I don't blame them for wanting back up - I think Connie is going to do 6 shows a week.

I hope you get to see her Lena and Harry! Its always disappointing when you get that announcement just before the curtain goes up 'And the part of Maria von Trapp this evening will be played by A.N Other, from TVs Pets win Prizes, who normally plays the Baroness's poodle'! That said, if the 'back up 'actress is the one I was told it was, then it you won't be disappointed with her performance!
