Who Would You See Onstage

Post by karl » Sun Jul 17, 2011 9:44 am

Are there any artists you would have liked to have seen onstage but for various reasons never had the chance to or artists you did see and would have liked to have seeen again?

I am adding a sub section here of artists we have seen and been so disappointed.

This is something we can come back to as we remember names,I'll start it off.

Disappointing Acts

Burt Bacharach

(I always wanted to see this living legend as his music is fantastic, I had a premonition that he would disappoint and he did - I was with a friend and she loves every show she see's but she was even more disappointed than I was with Burt.)

Artists Never Seen.

Matt Monro
Judy Garland
Steve Tyrell
Steve Lawrence
Take That
David Whitfield
Frank Ifield
The Seekers
BArbra Streisand

Artists I Wanted To See Again
Dusty Springfield
Lou Rawls
Jackie Trent
Ray Conniff Singers
Helen Shapiro (Helen has semi-retired)
Vic Damone
Dorothy Squires
Bee Gees
Petula Clark
Cliff Richard
Barry Manilow
Frank Sinatra
Gene Pitney

There's a touch of irony here regarding Gene Pitney, I first saw him in the 60's then not again until we reached the new millenium when I saw him twice, I was booked to see him four days after he passed away which was very sad.
Gene was a superb performer and his version of Robbie Williams "Angels" is the best I've ever heard.

I will check that out later-I have been too long on the computer, and my dogs are barking for their tea---but it sounds interesting ! I always liked Gene Pitney--especially after I sold one of his cds on Ebay for £41.00....He was also one of George's favourites.

Robert thanks for posting that I never saw that particular show but as I said I saw Gene singing it in concert and also bought his dvd, I wonder why he never recorded it infact although he had his own recording studio he never made any records for years - his last album was called Pitney '75 the year it was released and yet he continued to tour constantly. He's a great miss to music!

Robert, I saw Matt in San Francisco at the Fairmont Hotel, Venetian Room in April of 1967. I failed to record him with my Sony Pro
Walkman Mini-Cassette Recorder as I had recorded many other live concerts and with great sound, but for some reason I never did Matt's Show. I have regretted it ever since!! I have an audio cassette that Matt did with the University of San Francisco's Harry Young
in that same week which I sent to Richard Moore several years ago, but it was only a talk show format with no music, but it was a very
interesting show broadcast on April 9, 1967. The following month Matt recorded several songs with the Airmen of Note which I have on
a cassette titled "Serenade in Blue" released in 1968. Some songs may be on the "Rarer Monro" CD next year but they are all stock
arrangement of Matt's Single Hits performed with US Air Force Band.

Where did you see Matt? Status Quo are great onstage aren't they, my neighbours are big fans and treated me for my birthday awhile back even although the show was four months later, enjoyed it so much I went back the next year, they always have a great support act too.

In answer to your question Karl, we saw Matt many times at different cabaret clubs in the Manchester and surrounding areas.

As always Matt was superb each time we saw him and we were very fortunate to speak to him after the show to tell him how much we had enjoyed it.

Sadly all the clubs have now closed down but those were times we will never forget.
