POWER CUTS

Post by karl » Tue Oct 04, 2011 9:35 pm

We had three power cuts this evening, the first lasted less than five minutes, the second about a minute and the third for almost half an hour - everything went black, no street lights no traffic lights - nothing. I even tried to use my mobile phone and that would not connect either so it must have been something major!

The planes coming in to land must have wondered what was going on.

I don't remember having a power cut for about 30 years and certainly not on this scale.

We had one about three years ago, and I think it was around Christmas time as well, and it was off for a good couple of hours.

I can remember the Power strikes from way back, where the power would be cut for several hours---it was no joke, travelling on the train, with no idea where you were, as it was pitch black-no idea even when you were at a station, or what station it was, and hoping that when you got out, the train was at the platform. Followed by a half hour walk home in the dark-to a cold dark house-unable to even make a cup of tea-hoping you could remember where the candles and matches were----until the lights came on again. It was just AWFUL !!

Yes I thought to myself this is how the blackout must have been like during the war, anyway it was a fire in a sub-station which caused the problems.
