RUMER

Post by karl » Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:30 am

I was listening to Ken Bruce today as I drove and this great record was playing. I wasn't sure who it was and wondered if it was Beth Neilsen Chapman but it was Rumer - I was most impressed!

I do quite like Rumer's voice, and she always reminds me just a little of Karen Carpenter--but I do not always like the songs she sings. I saw her on a tv show singing "What the world needs now" which I really liked, but I could not see where she had recorded it anywhere.

Yes there was a trace of Karen in her voice. What I enjoyed was she sings without any vocal gymnastics like so many of today's female stars.

Yes Karl, there was a trace of Karen in her voice and like you I love that she sings the melody straight very rare in female artists these days. I guess they would say now that Rumer is an "original". If you can check out her cd's, I believe there are two. They are awesome and just good to listen to.

I just heard Rumer on the radio singing a lovely song called "Travelling Boy"--and although I like her voice, I do not usually like the songs she sings---but i really loved this song.

Just heading to Amazon,to check it out.

This cd arrtived today from Amazon. When I first heard that song "Travelling Boy", it sounded familiar--and I also was sure that it was a songwriter that I knew, had written it.

So when I checked it out today--it was written, and previously sung, by the wonderful and prolific Paul Williams---who wrote "We've only just begun" plus loads more great songs. That is why i loved it straightaway, obviously !

Art Garfunkel had a version of Travellin Boy in the 1970s

Thanks Mike---I have all of Art Garfunkels cds, so no doubt I have that track tucked away there too. I wish I had more time to cataloge and sort my music, so I knew what I have etc---I seemed to find things easier when I was working, which really does not make sense.

That clip was brilliant Mike, thanks again for the link. I see it is from the cd "Angel Clare" which I know I have, so I must dig it out.

I wonder why Art Garfunkel is seldom mentioned on this Forum, I think he is great.
