PETULA CLARK.

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Fri Nov 02, 2012 10:51 am

Petula Clark will be celebrating her Eightieth Birthday on the 15th November.
There is a Two part programme, the first on BBC Radio 2 on Monday the 5th Nov at 10pm. Looking back on her long showbiz career with old and new archives and the songs she made famous. :)

I saw Petula twice in The Sound Of Music & Sunset Boulevard but fionally got to see her as herself in concert prior to her 70th - she was even better than I anticipated and took three standing ovations.

After the show I chatted to her and had a picture taken, she was really friendly and down to earth.

That must have been around the same time we saw her in concert Karl, I think it was 2002 at The Bridgewater Hall. She was very good. :)

We were at the Apollo Theatre for the first night of "The Sound Of Music" with Petula Clark. She had several standing ovations
This show always gives me a smile and takes me back to my friend who was with us that night (but has since sadly passed away ) remarking quite loudly in her typical Eastend accent referring to Honour Blackman who played Baroness Schraeder ...crikey look at the size of her feet. :D

If she was an Eastender did she call them feet or plates of meat?

She did actually say feet Karl, but it was still funny and true too. :D

We have listened to part One of Petula's story tonight on the radio. Quite interesting, a little revealing.
Looking forward to part Two next week. :)

L&H according to Radio Times the second part is on in two weeks time.

I must have missed the revealing bit, what was that? Maybe I can listen again online?

Well, maybe many of us have always thought of Petula as squeeky clean but she is the first to admit that she done things that she soon realised weren't to her advantage, but don't we or haven't we all !!!!
Yes, a silly schedule arrangement Karl, i've just seen that episode Foiur of the Comedy awards are on that time next Monday, :? :?

The second part of Petulas career is on Monday the 19th at 10'oclock PM BBC Radio 2.
This programme features personal recollections and anecdotes from Tony Hatch, Tony Blackburn, Herp Albert, Bill Kenwright, Michael Ball, Honor Blackman, and Paul Gambaccini, and archive interviews with Fred Astaire, Diana Dors, Alan Freeman, Anthony Newley, and of course tracks from her songs.
Sounds good !!!

Funnily enough, I just got a new cd of Anthony Newley, and on it, he sings a duet with Petula--"The people tree"--it is my favourite track on that cd.

IS that the new rarities one Marian? I swithered about that as I have several cd's and albums by Anthony but I thought his voice didn't so good on this.

Is 'swithered' a Scottish word Karl? Never heard it before.
