Postal Scam

Post by Michele Monro » Thu Dec 06, 2012 10:53 am

The Trading Standards Office and Royal Mail are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact the m on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize .

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655.

Michele I hope this didn't happen to you?

The Police should arrest them for this, it's burglary! Also if anyone does call the number I hope BT will refund them?

Wow that's crazy. We have those scams here also. They seem to target the Senior Citizens. I think this is really cruel!!

I contacted 'Hoax - Slayer' about this scam.

Brief Analysis
The warning was true several years back, but the scam was shut down in late 2005. The scam is not reoccurring in 2012. Reposting this hopelessly outdated and misleading warning will not help anybody stay safe this Christmas.

Also "snopes.com" also said it is outdated.

Thanks for the warning Michele--basically , we all have to be careful and wary of anything that looks the slightest bit unusual--heaven knows there are enough of them coming in by email every day !

I get over 50 spam messges a day in my spam folder--s0metimes more--but occasionally a genuine one gets in there, so I have to check before deleting them all--obviously not opening them, but just looking down the list-it can take a while, especially if you miss a day and have over 100 emails to check.

Yep Karl, Mariana is right..don't know how it happens but that's about the average I get also. I don't open them but go through the folder to see if there is a legit email that may have floated in there.
