A Dedicated Matt Monro Fan

Post by Isabel » Sat Feb 16, 2008 4:54 pm

Hello Everyone

I have just joined this website. I did not even know it existed until I googled Matt's name.

I have been a fan of Matt's for a long long time.

My husband and I went to see Tony Hancock at the Theatre Royal Portsmouth where Matt was also appearing. We already knew and liked Matt because we used to listen to him on the radio when my husband was stationed in Malta. When we got to the theatre that night it was announced that Tony Hancock was indisposed and Matt came on. He was absolutely marvellous, and sang for well over an hour. Needless to say he got a standing ovation at the end. We have never forgotten that night.

I have got about 6 of Matt's CDs but would be interested to know more about the 4 box set and where it can be obtained from.
I am a huge Matt Monro fan

Hi Isabel--welcome to this site--hope you enjoy visiting it.

Thank you for sharing your story of Matt with us.

The 4 box set is really worth having--it goes all the way from old favourites to some rare tracks--and it has a great booklet enclosed with loads of information.

Michele opened a "Shop" on the site where many of Matts cds and dvds could be ordered directly from here, but I was not able to track it down today--maybe someone else can help on that.

Hi Isabel,
Welcome again to the forum. The Box Set of "The Singer's Singer" is indeed available from the website shop. It is listed on the CD page.
It can also be obtained from Amazon I believe.
It's a wonderful set and you're sure to enjoy it, also there is much info on Matt in Michele's book which accompanies it. :D :D
Marian.
P.S. I've just checked on Amazon, and Wow! the prices have certainly shot up there! I think your best bet would be the site shop Isabel.

Amazon UK has the box set at £82.00   while Amazon.com (USA) has it at $82.00 which works out at half the UK price

HMV have it at £30.00 at the moment

It's a lovely story Isabel. :D Thanks for sharing it with us all.

There was a sealed copy of the box set on ebay recently, which sold for just over £21.00, but these bargains are few and far between.
I bought my copy from Amazon at around that price, but that was quite a while ago now. :D
I've just found Play.com have The Singers Singer for £27.99 with free delivery.
Marian

He was considered by many the best ever British comic, we much preferred Ken Dodd and Les Dawson

Yes, Ken Dodd is brilliant, I think I have seen him 3 times, his shows go on until the wee small hours! I liked Les Dawson as well, especially the Cissy and Ada sketches and him playing the piano.

If you like British comedy tune into BB7 Sunday lunchtime. Yesterday, it was Listen to Les followed by the Al Read Show. :) :) :) :) :)
