Just a brief introduction

Post by Ronnie West » Sat Dec 06, 2008 5:17 pm

Hi There,
I have been a member of this forum for some time now but have been unable to get on board. I had an email from Michelle prompting me to find the time to get on board so here I am.
I am very keen on music because of my work with Hospital Radio and Matt Monro is top of my list along with Guy Mitchell, Johnny Loughrey (who the hell is that, I hear you ask). Well I will let you have a quick sample if you want - just sent me an email and I will reply with an mp3.

I know that you might want to know more about me and I will let you have more detail when I get time, in the meantime I just wanted to say Hi!

The very best to you all,
Ron

Hi Ron, welcome aboard. It's great that Matt's music is among the top of your list. :)
We love Guy Mitchell, but must confess had never heard of Johnny Loughrey, but are always eager to listen and learn about them.
We have found Johnny Loughrey on You tube singing "Do You Know You Are My Sunshine." and very good he is too.
Thank you Ron, keep playing the good stuff and join us on the forum whenever you can.
We would like to hear more about the music that you play. :) :)

Welcome Ron. I always liked Guy Mitchell too, but like Lena and Harry, have never heard of Johnny Loughrey. You'll just have to let us know all about him. :D :D

Hello Ron---well it looks as though you have introduced us all to a new singer, as I have never heard of Johnny Loughrey either---but it is always interesting to hear someone new.

I am not surprised that Johnny Loughrey is new to some of you! He was around for many years before his untimely death a couple of years ago. If you like Country music you will love his laid back style. Not as good as Matt though, he is still my number one. Incidentally my personal favourite is Matt's eurovision song entry call 'The Little Things' since I played it on a radio show, it gets requested a great deal, though I must confess that Matt is not (yet) the number 1 requested singer - that accolade goes to Daniel O'Donnell.

Please post your most favourite Matt Monro song of all time, I have an idea for producing a program of the top 20 Matt Monro songs as compiled by his fans. Could be interesting eh!

That could be an interesting list ! I know that many of us have a different favourite "Matt track"--some being more unusual than others--in the fact that you will never hear them on the radio.

But I will start you off with my own personal favourite track by Matt, which is--

"I'll take romance"

Hi Mariana, You said:

That is a good start because I do not have that track in my collection. Can you tell me what CD it is on please?

I have so many favourites it is difficult to choose just one, but at the moment, thanks to John, it is 'So Little Time.'
I think it would be lovely to have a programme of not so well known Matt favourites. :D
For Peter, I must add 'On Days Like These' though. :D

Thanks for that information Robert, but now you have given me 2 more titles that I have never heard - what albums are these on please?

So far, it seems that it is the more sentimental side of Matt that is popular amoung you. Keep on posting your favourites please.

Are you aware that Matt sang a version of 'Mary's Boy Child' ?

So Little Time is on Disc 2 of The Rare Monro Ronnie.
On Days like These must be on many CDs, one I know is Complete Heartbreakers disc 2.
We do know Matt recorded Mary's Boy Child, and also When a Child is Born, and of course, Christmas is Magic.:D :D

Mary's Boy Child and When A Child Is Born are both on the "If I Never Sing Another Song" album. I think they have both been reissued on various christmas compilation albums over the years.

"I'll Take Romance" is also on "The Capitol Years" and "This Is The Life"
bu one of my favourites has always been "Can This Be Love." and remembering that this was played quite often on the radio a few years ago, and can be found CD "A Time For Love," and the double CD .."This Is Matt Monro" which has another good selection including all Matt's classics and other nice tracks.
