Antiques Road Trip

Starts next week on BBC TV TWO week-dayevenings-two'experts'search for antiques to sell at a profit,mostly in a red 1950s M.G.TD Sports Car.

We saw this advertised a day or so ago Mark. Peter is interested as he has a black 1935 MG PA sports car!!

The P.A.is a lovely car-a bit earlier than the one they'll be using/have used for the series.
Peter will know that the T.D.was a post-war update ,chunkier than the T.A.& T.B.&'48 T.C..Perforated wheel discs etc. Superceded by theT.F.which had a sloping radiator grille and slightly more streamlined look and,I think,wire wheels. All these now command high prices for good examples. Years ago,I had a Z.A.Magnette saloon,prone to engine problems after high speed motorway journeys!
I then graduated onto a Jaguar 3.4 and then a Daimler V8 250-oops,I'm rambling on....

We watched the first show tonight. Very similar in a way to other antique programmes but we quite enjoyed it.

No M.G.TD last evening-they travelled around in an Austin-Healey 100(could have been a 3000-six). Couldn't understand why anyone could pay so much for Monart glass items!

Especially a cracked vase!!!

However,it brought the best profit of the Monart choices. I wonder how much editing went on?

Anita did well tonight.
I expect the MG will be on next week. Peter prefers the earlier models though, he's owned his for nearly 52 years.
Longer than he's owned me!!

I watched it tonight, quite enjoyed it. I like Anita Manning, she is a good auctioneer as well.

I don't want to spoil it for you but I think she doesn't win,nor does Barby!

Well,I could be wrong!
So far,they don't seem to have bought an actual'antique'.
However,it makes for a good TV programme. Now Paul Martin in his series DID buy more actual antiques. Buying with a time/price limit is never easy-45 years collecting and sometimes we come home with nothing!

This week the'experts'are in a maroon Mercedes-started off quite well,but how on earth do they manage to negotiate those amazing discounts?

I am enjoying this show. I thought it was hilarious on Friday when Anita turned one of her pictures over that she had bought and broke the glass.
