Jack Jones
Re: Jack Jones
Something for the future when she leaves school?
New album is excellent-I have always been a big fan of The Bergmans' work and Jack showcases the lyrics beautifully-no need to go through each track ,suffice to say that it is a wonderful addition to Jack's impressive body of recordings-great to hear his version of'WHERE DO YOU START?',a particular favourite.
No record label credited on the CD sleeve except the information:-Mixdown by Jack Jones-Produced by Jack Jones. On the actual disc'TRO-THE RICHMOND ORGANIZATION INC.'
Accompaniments are impeccable under the Musical Direction of Mike Renzi.
I haven't seen Jack in concert since the inital release of his'JACK JONES PAINTS A TRIBUTE TO TONY BENNETT'album and it looks as if I've been missing a treat.
To be rectified next UK visit!

Re: Jack Jones
Mark has described the new album very well and I have very little to add.
It is a different kind of album for Jack, more of the flavour of a late night jazz club scene I should have thought, not that I've ever frequented those establishments. Not too many exist in the wilds of Berkshire!
Anyway, I love the Alan and Marilyn Bergman lyrics, and apart from sounding rather emotional at times, Jack sings them well. Nice'n'Easy and Windmills of Your Mind he has performed on much earlier albums and it is interesting to compare the changes in Jack's voice over the years.
My favourites on this album would have to be, Where Do You Start, On my Way To You (Jack sang this at his wedding earlier in the year to Eleonora.) What Matters Most, and In Another Life.

Re: Jack Jones
Beautifully put,Marian.

Re: Jack Jones
It sounds great-I just hope that it will be available for the general public to buy real soon--it seems a shame that at the moment it is restricted--i know lots of people would love it.
Mariana
Re: Jack Jones
It's not really'restricted',just that it appears not to have a distributor needed for record/CD releases. Also it seems to be entirely Jack's'baby'and therefore ,at present, only available for those reasons,at Jack's concerts. The CD is 'produced'by Jack with no record label/deal obvious on the sleeve notes/details. I'm sure it's only a temporary situation.
Re: Jack Jones
I hope you are right Mark---to me, the fact that it is only available at JJ's concerts, infers that it is ---well, maybe not restricted--but again, not easily available.
Mariana
Re: Jack Jones
I'm just as disappointed as you-you are right in that it is restricted to people who attend Jack's concerts Stateside or ask someone to get it for them. To me,it looks like a Jack Jones production CD and as such can only be sold that way,I hope for the time being.
Re: Jack Jones
I couldn't find the thread for the Great American Songbook so I'm writing here as it was so nice to see JJ included last night.
He so often gets overlooked.
I watched the show but apart from the well loved and seasoned performers who are always a pleasure to see and hear, Ella, Sammy, Tony etc.there were many I would have preferred not to have seen, Dr John, Captain Sensible, and Jamie Cullum abusing the piano to name just three.

Re: Jack Jones
We agree Marian. It was a programme that could have been so much better.
Don't think the producer could have known very much about 'The Great American Songbook'

Re: Jack Jones
Yes, I agree--good in parts---but no Frank Sinatra, no Johnny Mathis--lots of great singers missing---and as for Captain Sensible--well !!!!!!

Re: Jack Jones
We were enjoying the show, but couldn't believe it when Captain Sensible turned up. Lets face it he looked anything but sensible with that beret on his head and a stuffed parrot on his shoulder.
Jools Holland is so talented, pity we can't say the same for many of his guests who appear on his show, and Jamie Callum who'd obviously worn his elbows out on the piano had to resort to his feet.
. At least the rest of the night until late was definitely TALENT Frank Sinatra Dean Martin and Judy Garland.

Re: Jack Jones
Yes fantastic entertainment Lena and Harry. More please!

Re: Jack Jones
I have yet to see Dean, Frank & Judy--but there is something similar on all this week 0n BBC4--one is called BBC4Sessions, i think--The Great American Songbook [again], but by contempoary singers---the only names I recognised were Melody Gardot & Sharleen Spiteri--maybe Jamie and Diana Krall should have been in this selection...
