Well Paul--I am not going to say that was obscure--but I cannot say that I have ever heard it. Top Marks for Terence for getting it.

I even checked out the lyrics for Handels Messiah, but it still did not register.

Hope your next ones are slightly easier !!

Marian - you definitely need to listen to the full Handel's Messiah. Everything is beautiful.

This verse should be easier for all of you to guess. It even made the charts this year!

Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
It’s the time that every Santa has a ball
Does he ride a red nosed reindeer?
Does he turn up on his sleigh?
Do the fairies keep him sober for a day?

Hi Paul

It has been many years since I last sang in the chorus of The Messiah.
I remember struggling as I had trouble hitting high G continuously. I am okay if you only require me to hit it once or twice in a song. But to hit that high G so many times, I ended up struggling to hit it using all the vocal tricks I know.

The new one is MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY. Westlife has a version out. Am I right Paul?

Terence-I am very impressed--I do not even know waht a "vocal G" is----let alone try to hit it

I did actually know that song you just guessed. But I have not heard Westlife" sing it.

Hi Marian

Paul has not confirmed that my answer is correct. Your sister may have heard Westlife sing it.

If my answer is correct, it may be Paul's way of wishing us.

The answer is correct Terence, the song made very famous by SLADE 8)
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Actually, the answer I was expecting was "Merry Xmas Everybody". I heard it when Slade's version appeared on the top 40 this month. I guess the Westlife song is the same one.

Here's the last opening Christmas lyric I have to submit. Who knows it?

It was Christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you.

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So Happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true.

I know we've closed this game, but I just had to add this one that I recently became familiar with. I had never heard the verse before. It's a great verse. I also didn't know it was from 1931. I'm sure many of you know it.

People are queer, they're always crowing, scrambling and rushing about;
Why don't they stop someday, address themselves this way?

Why are we here?
Where are we going?
It's time that we found out.
We're not here to stay; we're on a short holiday.

This used to be one of my favourite games--but I do not recognise this one just now.

RUDY VALLEY recorded this song with the verse. We have Two different recordings of him singing this song . One of them turns into a comedy. :)

Yes, it's Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries. I never heard the verse until I heard Doris Day's exquisite version on her My Heart CD. She captures the sentiment of the song perfectly. I love that album and LIJABOC is my favorite on the album.
