I'm listening to Matt on the wonderful "Singer's Singer" at the moment.

Have also watched the Alma Cogan DVD this afternoon. It brought back quite a few memories from those days. :D :D :D

I really like the Bee Gees--one of my favourite albums of theirs is "Spirits having Flown "--they have written many great songs through the years.

I like Jim Reeves as well, Robert, especially his Christmas album, he does a brilliant version of SILVER BELLS.

Just have to explain what I was doing in the earlier posting Robert, I was waiting for Marian to reach a milestone number of postings (can't recall how many it was now, it was a while ago.)
When I wrote about just one more, and said that I was watching, it was for Marian to reach the magic number so that I could congratulate her.
In no way was I after your job Robert, I know how good you are at it!!!! :? :? :?

Shirley Bassey

Post by Terence Lee » Sat Jan 13, 2007 5:28 am

Listening to Shirley Bassey's "You Take My Heart Away" album on CD thanks to Mariana44. I am surprised her vinyl is in such good shape after all these years. La Bassey belts tunes like Silly Love Songs, Cest La Vie, I Let You Let Me Down Again and This One's For You in an unforgettable way. Isn't that Stargazer from the movie Chicago? I will spin this CD for many more days. I Need To Be In Love is so meaningful.

Hi Terence--although I have had that LP for many years, it has been well protected --like them all, in an inner polythene cover, plus an outer plastic cover, and stored vertically in a sturdy record case. Glad you are enjoying it all over again. Although you forgot "Perfect Strangers", my very favourite track--a lttle known song by the great Neil Sedaka!!!

All kept well away from a certain 2 puppies !!!!

Hi Terence and Marian, we also have our LPs in the same order.
We liked the very early recordings of Shirley Bassey, some of them even in preference to the progressive dramatic style that became part of her enormous popularity.
Harry and I both remember my Brother coming home and raving about this 17 year girl he had seen singing in a hotel lounge that evening and saying that she would go far.
He was right, the fantastic Shirley Bassey now lives in Monte Carlo.
