Two Versions of Same Song - Your Favourite
Re: Two Versions of Same Song - Your Favourite
LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN---Neil Sedaka---Johhny Mathis
I really cannot think of anyone else who has covered this song.
But I do not think anyone will ever beat Neil on this one.

TRUE LOVE - So memorable when sung by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly
but I also love Margaret Whiting's version
......so I won't split them

Marian, there is a Thomas Anders singing "Laughter In The Rain" on YOUTUBE.
He sings it very well, but of course it was Neil Sedaka's song.
Robert, Margaret Whiting is one of the greats.
There are several versions of ..MY YIDDISHE MOMMA. and Anne Shelton and Issy Bonn's are Two of our favourites, but Neil Sedaka's version is the best of them all.

I'M IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE
a song recorded by Vera Lynn, Frances Langford and Barbra Streisand, but Frances Langford made the song famous in the 1935 film Every Night at Eight when she sang the song to George Raft..........she must have sung the song to him alright, as I don't recall reading that he got his heavies to give her a beating

GEORGE RAFT probably whisked her round the floor for a tango instead Robert.
One of the greatest songs of all times "AS TIME GOES BY." SUNG BY
VERA LYNN and JIMMY DURANTE, but VERA LYNN gets the vote.

I like Willie Nelson too Sandra.
This song "AT LAST" another of the classics, and many versions ,but it's
Nat King Cole's and Lou Rawls for me. with
LOU RAWLS just taking preference.

Diana Ross and the Supremes also do a wonderful version of this song. But I agree this song belongs to Doris Day and Harry James. It is superb.Sandra wrote:WITH A SONG IN MY HEART---- DORIS DAY/ELLA FITZGERALD and probably many more.

Speaking of Motown...
I Heard It Through the Grapevine:
Gladys Knight and the Pips
Marvin Gaye
My preference is Gladys Knight and the Pips version (more up tempo and exciting). In the BBC Radio 2 Motown special last year, they reported that Gladys Knight was so upset when they let Marvin Gaye record the song after she had a hit with it. Then Marvin Gaye's version became a much bigger hit. I believe she remained upset about this for many years ... probably why she left Motown/Soul for Buddah Records, which was a good move as the hits really happened for them after they left Motown/Soul.
