Matt's All of a Sudden is a beautiful song Mark although we can't be certain if this was the song that he sang on Russell Harty's show. John may be able to confirm on this. :)

" By The way" is a lovely melody, a nice introduction with nice lyrics and
Everything Is Nothing Without You, once more with superb accompaniment on the piano.
Another upbeat number is "I've Got Love" and followed by the fantastic Rodgers and Hart "Blue Moon." Matt's smooth and incomparible velvety tones make this a top favourite for us.
"Making whoopee" has the orchestra in full thrust when required and after the brilliant "Strike Up The Band" that's followed by "Till" and sang with such tender emotion, these two songs alone are a perfect example that Matt was a master of his craft.
"Birth Of The Blues" with the best musicians make this a brilliant combination and one of the best versions of this number. "In The Still Of The Night " written by Cole Porter, in a recent poll on Russell Davies show was voted the best composer of popular music . Matt certainly gave this song the credit it deserved. Just like he did with every song on this double Cd.

Matt sang ALL OF A SUDDEN/TODO PASARA on Tarby and Friends in Nov/Dec 1984, don't know if he sang it on Russell Harty show, I do know he sang YOU BRING OUT THE BEST ON ME on the Harty show and also on Des O Connor show, plus a medley with Des.

Just how wonderful is Love Song! And it's perfect for this week with Valentine's Day. I love that descending guitar line. Actually I love everything about the song---especially how Matt Monro's voice builds to a crescendo. And the excelllent arrangement is a bit different than other Matt Monro songs. I'd never heard of this song before, but what a fabulous discovery this is! :D

Great to see WHERE IN THE WORLD on this compilation plus it's original b side THE LADY SMILES. Two more brilliant songs to add on to the list. Matt sings these with such warmth and emotion.

I am a bit late regarding giving my views on the "Rare Monro" but I was late buying the CD, I was waiting to order it from HMV "in a job lot" with other CDs, which I have now done. I received the "Rare Monro" about two weeks ago. So far I have only played disc one, which I think is terrific 8) The opening track "Other People" and track 3 "All of a Sudden" are to me typical Matt "songs" - just glorious 8) I haven't got used to track 2 "Mirage" yet, but it might be a grower  The beginning to track 15 "I Love You To" is spectacular, with great orchestration 8) As L&H say "Try To Remember" is made for Matt who sings the song brilliantly 8) But for me at the moment, the two absolute standout tracks are "Love Song" 8) 8) and "Where In the World" 8) 8) TWO songs which I think should have been massive hits for Matt :D :D 8) 8)
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

There are so many real treats on the "Rare Monro" Robert and on "Heart Of A Man" and yet we have played " From Matt With Love" so many times, the standards are there and it's such a perfect selection. :) :)

where is my copy of the Rare Monro?

Post by Terence Lee » Wed Mar 07, 2007 9:49 am

I find it extraordinary that CD WOW is unable to ship out a copy of The Rare Monro to me. It is a CD that is in print and stocked at most, if not all, major stores in UK I am sure. Perhaps a gentle reminder to them may work, otherwise I will have to ask for a refund and purchase it elsewhere.

I have always found CDWow very quick and efficient--you must have just been unlucky Terence. But I nearly always use Amazon now, I have to say---there are some real bargains in their "New and Old" selection--often less expensive than ebay.

Paul

remember I told you the new Matt album was at £9.99 in Virgin in London? Well, it's gone up in price three time there since and is now £13! I'm sure it's all to do with Mother's Day, and I wonder whether they will drop the price once that's over.
