What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
I am listening on my"itunes" --at the moment Bobby Darin is singing "I believe in you".
Unluckily I lost a load of music from "itunes" when I had a new hard disc and a complete reinstallation on my computer about 2 weeks ago---although I had backed up I was left with only 300 songs from over 2000!!
So I am gradually bulding it all up again.
Now it is Frank Sinatra--"Loves been good to me"
I have managed to keep a few of Matts tracks on, but I have got a load more to put back on---I guess it's not a bad way of spending a wet Bank Holiday !!! [which is what they have promised us!!]

Hi everyone,
Have any of you heard of a great singer/songwriter called Charlie Lansborough? If not, well Charlie is from Liverpool and is about 65 years old now.
He spent many years performing in local pubs and clubs and was signed to Ritz records in the mid 1990's.
Charlie is now with Rosette records the same label that look after Daniel O'Donnell.
If Charlie comes to a theatre near you, I would strongly recommend that if you can, you go along and see the great man.
His voice is just amazing as are his songs like, "What colour is the wind?" a song about a blind girl, is a really nice song.
Other artists like Foster and Allen have recorded his material and the mighty Daniel has recorded FIVE of his songs.
I guess that Charlie is a little bit like Ralph McTell as he plays his guitar and sings all night. Mind you, his jokes and stories are good too!
A very nice singer to take the whole family along to see as he appeals to music fans of all ages!
Best Wishes,
Hilary

Hi Hilary----yes I have heard of Charlie Lansborough-at one time I had several of his cd's, and yes he is a very talented singer and songwriter.
Along with Daniel O'Donnell, another very popular singer is Dominic Kirwan--again I have some of his cd's. I have never actually seen either of them perform, but I have seen them on video, and they put on a great show.

Hi Marian,
We have seen Charlie live along with Daniel and Dominic too!
All three artists are VERY good live.
Not only are their shows brilliant but the rapport they have with the audience is lovely and warm.
We have made some really good friends by going along to the shows as they attract such nice people.
It is a shame that Radio 2 don't play more of these artists instead of some of the others that they tell us all are GOOD new talent!!
If only the people that organise the playlists would listen to the people and give us all the music WE want to hear!!
Best

Hello Hilary and everyone. Can I just say that I think Radio 2 is going completely off the boil nowadays. Its definitely not the same as it used to be. They seem to be getting rid of the programmes that contain "our kind of music", the music we like to listen to. Even Ed Stewart has now gone and has been replaced by Johnnie Walker, whose show sounds as though it belongs on Radio 1. I used to listen to Radio 2 nearly all day on a Sunday, but not anymore.

Hi Robert and everyone, firstly thanks for your weather forecast Robert!!
Actually yesterday was not too bad, a little rain in the morning. Now they are saying a mini-heatwave is on the way!!
I have to agree with you about Radio 2---and sometimes there is just too much chat about nothing!!
I only listen now to Prime-Time---either on my Sky Tv, or my DAB radio.
Or else my Ipod---I have an Ipod speaker, so you do not have to have headphones on all the trime---it is brilliant--or will be when I get all my music back on.!!!
Hilary, I know what you mean about Charlie, Daniel, and Dominic, as I said I have seen them on video, and they have been tremendous. I
certailnly envy you, seeing them live.
I am currently listening to "Too Late Now" by Jane Monheit---a lovely singer!

Hi Marian, Robert and everyone,
I bought a REALLY nice CD yesterday from a trumpet player called John Barker. John was playing his trumpet outside Marks and Spencer, Oxford.
He had quite a large crowd outside listening to him play.
When I stopped by, he was playing "Born free" and it was a very nice version too.
Sometimes you just know that you will like a CD like this one and it is best to go with your instincts. I wasn't disappointed at all as there are some lovely versions of other songs too, like "Fields of gold" and "Over the rainbow."
Robert, I agree with you about Radio 2.
At the moment, Johnny Walker is presenting the week day breakfast show. Now we have Johnny on Radio 2 almost everyday!
Thank goodness Sir Terry will be back again on Monday.
I do prefer his music and he does from time to time play a song from Matt on the show.
Marian, at the moment, we don't have digital radio here in rural Oxfordshire but we have been told that we should have this by the end of the year which is good news. A DAB radio will certainly be on our Christmas list this year!
Best Wishes to all,
Hilary

Jane Monheit
Hi Marian
I agree that Jane Monheit is a lovely singer. Here in Asia, she starts off the "Female Audiophiles" CD with her version of Over The Rainbow. I am used to hearing the great late Judy Garland belt this classic but Jane imbues it with a nuanced touch giving it another shade of meaning altogether. I prefer Jane's version over Barbra Streisand's live version on her "One Voice" album. I also have Jane's Christmas CD but she doesn't impress me that much there.
Currently listening to Dame Cleo Laine's definitive reading of WAVE backed by John Williams on guitar.
Dame Cleo has a wide vocal range and this song shows it off from fabulous lows to glorious highs.

Hi Terence and everyone--I really was not sure if many of you knew Jane Monheit---and her long version of "Over the Rinbow " is superb too--I have 2 dvds also.
Robert--thanks for the weather forecast again---about time we had a little nice weather, and be able to sit in the garden. It will take me ages to get all my songs back--but it is the ones I downloaded that are hardest to replace--for a start I cannot remember all of them, and I could not find them on the 2 dowload sites that I have so far checked.
Hilary, --we have not long had digital radio in this part of Kent, but it certainly makes a difference with a DAB radio--they seem to have come down in price too. There are loads of stations on, but I listen to only 2--Prime Time amd Radio 2 occasionally---eg David Jacobs on Sunday night!!
At this moment I am listening to Natalie Cole and Diana Krall---"Better than Anything"---great duet, but rarely heard on radio!!

Diana Krall
Hi Marian
Diana Krall is very popular here in Asia and her CDs sell by the truckloads. However when I caught her concert in Singapore, I discovered that although she is a very talented jazz pianist and singer live, she could not captivate the audience and work the room, so to speak. She sat down most of the time and accompanied herself while she sang. The few times she attempted to stand before a mike and sing, she did not know what to do with her hands and her body language was awkward. Between songs, she said very little not like our Matt who could tell those wonderful jokes. So to my surprise, 45 minutes into the concert, people started leaving. I thought it was most rude of them especially since their foorsteps could be heard clearly and even Diana was aware of it. Well they missed the finale for she gave a splendid version of a song I can't remember now.
Regarding Natalie Cole, I have always marvelled at how easy she makes jazz singing look but it is probably deceptive. For instance, I am still struggling on my piano with Lush Life and she sings it like a dream with all those complicated chords.
But her voice is not an outstanding instrument.
Hilary has sent me a private message about Eva Cassidy. My favourite Eva performance is "What A Wonderful World" sung live not long before she passed away. I don't remember but I think she was carried up on stage for that song.

Hello Terence, Hilary and Mariana44. Some interesting posts above. I have heard of Jane Monheit, but only through her songs being played on the radio. It's a shame Diana Krall was treated with disrespect like that. It serves the people right, who left early, that they missed the best part of the performance. It will have been a bit embarrasing for poor Diana. Do you know by the way that Diana Krall is now married to Elvis Costello. I think they married last year.
