Mother's Day

Post by Administrator » Sun Feb 18, 2007 11:17 pm

Let's hope there are lots of people who want to buy their for their mothers on Mother's Day. That is our only hope for a top twenty now.

Frank Sinatra's new album which launched the same day as us with the same advertising money made the 90's the first week and was 104 last thursday. They have stopped the ads for the moment.

I have to admit that I bought the new Frank Sinatra one also--it is very good--with a nice selection of songs on it----but If I had to choose between Matt's cd, and Franks cd---no contest!! Matt's is far superior -in every way !

Davina McCall recently chose Frank Sinatra to go in Room 101, and Paul Merton agreed. A woman after my own heart.

Music Week reported that From Matt With Love saw a 133.8% sales increase over the previous week, with sales last week of 12,000. That implies the total sales are about 17,000 copies. I think that's excellent!

Sales

Paul, you are a wealth of information and may I add spot on - I don't know how you worked it out - I have to wait for a call from EMI each day.

The bad news is that we have gone DOWN 32 places since Sunday so as Queen Victoria said - I am not amused

But you never know, if it is anything like the performance of Ultimate than we will gain ground in a few weeks before Mother's Day.

What does annoy me is that for this week we are a bonafide No 30 but are not placed anywhere on the HMV chart rack - this is poor show - it's almost as if having MM in their chart is uncool. What is the point of making the charts if the shops are not going to display it

I guess it pays to be a statistician! I love following the charts and analysing the Music Week sales figures.

Sadly, HMV hasn't been using the official album chart for several years now. And they just started compiling their own singles charts due to the fact that downloads now appear on the official chart at any time.

Like you, I prefer to see the official chart when I walk in the store. But I'm sure HMV wants to display the albums that are selling in their stores, since those are the albums that their customers are buying. As you have mentioned before, most of the purchasers of Matt Monro music would typically buy their music in a store other than HMV and Virgin. I can't recall what chart Virgin displays, but I think it's their own also. And Woolworths has its own chart, which is often quite different from the official chart. I think WH Smith may display the official album chart.

It would be great to do some more advertising around Mother's Day. From Matt With Love would make a wonderful gift. And I'm sure it will continue to see well each future Valentine's Day.

It has still been a success Michele, I am sure your father would be very proud, and as you say with Mothers Day round the corner that will budge it up the charts again! I am sure everyone on the forum will agree that over the past few years you have done a wonderful job promoting your father's music, and he always will be Britain's finest singer! :D :D

I second that john. I agree with you regarding the great achievements Michele has had, by releasing Matts material over the past few years 8) 8) but I still haven't seen the advertisement for "From Matt With Love" on TV yet

You'd think in the current High St retail climate that HMV et al would want to get as many albums on shelves as they could. They moan that the www is forcing them to rethink, but clearly they don't think hard enough.

I don't think they are showing the advert at the moment, but will show it again prior to Mother's Day.. I only saw it the once, but then we don't have ITV or Sky on that often. Apparently, from the EMI marketing sheet it costs £50K to advertise Matt's CD on TV for one week!!

Maybe thats another reason why "From Matt With Love" hasn't been quite as successful as the "Ultimate" this time around- as I saw the advertisement for the "Ultimate" many many times on TV - especially during the breaks for Coronation Street, but as I mentioned in my previous post, I haven't seen the new album advertised AT ALL on TV yet

No I haven't seen it either Robert, but a lady I work with mentioned she had seen it the other day. She apparently said to her husband when she saw it, " I bet John's got that one". And of course, she was right.

Hi All

I also think that it's a fantastic achievement for the latest release to chart as high as it did.
A massive shame HMV chose to ignore it's success, but as Paul said, I think they aim at a different demograph in the shops.
I've mentioned on this forum before how I struggle to find Matt's Cd's in the music shops (HMV & Virgin) local to me, the 'This Is The Life' two-fer I picked up via the web from the US for 7 quid delivered.
I love this album, by the way! :)

Gray
