My favourites from Heart Of The Man remain This Is Real This Is Love, Exodus, French Poodle, I Remember It Well, In The Still Of The Night, and Walk Away.

I've never heard the song Happy by the Carpenters. I'll have to check it out.

Terence - I say "dreamen" just like Anne Murray. So do most people in the US and Canada.

There was just something special with how Anne Murray sang the words dreaming and magic in I Just Fall In Love Again. And the chorus was so strong. That magic is lost in the Carpenters' version, which is too laid back and quiet.

This morning I listened to A Hard Day's Night album by the Beatles. On the drive home it will be Affection by Lisa Stansfield.

I spent some of my later teenage years listening to the Carpenters, incuidng Passage, but I preferred Now and Then. I particularly like "This Masquerade" and "Desperado". I read somewhere recently - maybe it was on this site - that KAren C didn't care for "Superstar", but I've always felt this is one of their best songs.

When I was growing up, the general public in Malaysia referred to the Carpenters as blandness personified. Many of us would never be caught dead admitting to being a fan of their music. Their music was unpopularly referred to as white bread. Indeed Richard Carpenter is still taking the flak for remixing the vintage hits every few years to come out with new compilations. Then Karen died and everyone started to praise her pure tones and rich deep voice. Many of their hits are nice but some of them I cannot listen to anymore like Yesterday Once More. I grew sick of this song after every wannabe singer started warbling it at karaoke centres everywhere. That's why I seek out their non-hits and album tracks. Since many of their songs are multi-tracked, I wonder how they sound like live in concert. Japan will release their 'Live At The BBC" on DVD in April. Should be interesting to see them live. The blurb on the Japanese website says.......Live DVD release of footage from The Carpenters performances in London in November 1971, March 1974, and December 1976.

I have a dvd of the Carpenters singing in Japan, and they appeared to be hugely popular--Karen sang a song in Japanese--I think it was "Sing", and the crowd went wild--I do have many of their live performances on dvd--shall check if I have those that you mentioned.

For me the best ever of their concerts was the last one before Karen died , including a duet with Ella Fitzgerald. Karen always sounds brilliant, no matter what. Such a unique singer. I read or heard once that one of Richard's daughters had the same singing voice as Karen--so I am really glad to know that her voice is being carried on to another generation.

I've been downloading some contemporary music over the last few days.
I can't stop listening to 'Shine' by Take That -its so catchy and happy - altought I think that ELO could sue them for plaguarism! Also 'Ruby' by the Kaiser Chiefs - which is nicely followed on my i-pod by the Corrs lovey version of 'Ruby Tuesday'. Even some Snow Patrol.. oh and the studio version of Bobby Darins 'DOn't rain on my parade

Everyone is writing and saying that Shine by Take That is exactly like ELO. I don't get it. What ELO song sounds like Shine? I also like Shine a lot, much more than Patience.

I'm already tired of Ruby. I still love and often play Modern Way by the Kaiser Chiefs. It's still their best song.

Paul - how can you say it DOESN'T sound like ELO

I think its the pumping piano, the tempo, the violins in the background, the close harmonies of the vocals, the 'oohs', ahhs', . If I had to name a song that it sound like I guess 'Mr Blue Sky' or 'Hold on tight', or 'Sweet talkin woman' - take your pick. Your far more technically knowledageable about music than I am - I am surprsied you haven't spotted it!

Yes, I think either myself or Lena and Harry mentioned he still sings it on tour. I also have Andy Williams singing it as well.

At the moment, I am listening to the lovely Jack Jones double--"She loves me/There's love and theres love and theres love".

Just getting some more music on my new ipod--it is a long story, but I cannot put it on my old ipod, as i would lose everthing on it, which I do not want to do.

Does anyone know if there is a way of saving my music from my old ipod--yes I know I should have done it before I bought my new computer-I actually thought that I had !!

Can reply to the first bit Marian. " Once Upon A Time " was one of the most requested songs on Al Martino's return tour here.
Andy Williams version is also excellent, but then so is Tony Bennett's, just beautiful. !!!!.
As far as ipods, no can help
