Greatest Hits of Jim Reeves..............I can hear the sound of Distant Drums in the distance

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Been listening to The Best Of John Gary tonight. Another really good singer, love his version of "Two Different Worlds".

Can't stand Jim Reeves myself, but each to his own (I see he featured quite prominently in Radio 2's Top 60 selling Records of the 60s show yesterday.
Been listening to Newton Falkener's "Dream Catch Me": rather good. Does anyone know this song? It was hit in 2007 (I think). Also Manic Street Preachers' version of Rihanna's "Umbrella" Awesome!

Jon -- I know and love Newton Faulkner's Dream Catch Me. He had some good songs on his latest album, but nothing as catchy as Dream Catch Me.
I liked Umbrella by Rihanna very much, but loved it even more by the Manic Street Preachers. How are you listening to it? I thought it was only available as a 7 inch single. Or perhaps you have downloaded it? I never got a copy because the 7 inch was only attached to NME (not available in US) and I don't download music.
I've been listening a lot recently to Jamie Cullum's latest album (almost every song is excellent) and to Matt Monro's Hoagy Carmichael songs (One Morning in May for last month, IGAWYVW, and Memphis in June especially for today). I've just decided I don't like Small Fry, and will now be skipping it always.

Poor Small Fry
..........I think is a neat little song
.............I never (or very rarely) skip songs........ I like to listen to a full CD.

Don't dislike " Small Fry," always one first associated with Bing Crosby, Jim Reeves made several decent recordings but too mournful a sound for me.

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
I like Small Fry too, especially as it's our son's nickname for our grandson.

Hi Paul
I'm delighted you share my latest musical tastes - as I knew you would! I had toyed with getting Newton Faulkener's album, so impressed was I with Dream Catch Me, but haven't got round to it and may not now do so after your lukewarm review: it's often the case that album tracks don't live up to the strengths of their singles, and it seems this may be no exception.
I'm also glad you love the Manics' version of 'Umbrella'. I actually got it on a compilation album of Anthems called 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' for £3 in the sales in HMV Oxford Street recently; 'Umbrella' is the first track on the second side. The other tracks consist of, well, anthemic tracks from recent years such as REM's 'The Great Beyond' and Reef's 'Place Your Hands', to name just a few. I really only bought the album for 'Umbrella' but lots of the other songs on it are very enjoyable as well. I'm sure you'll find it on HMV's website. Incidentally the Manics have a new album due out in September called "Postcard From A Young Man" and are doing a tour to accompany it; they're only playing Brixton Academy in London but, strangely, they're not going to Cardiff, which I just don't understand. I will of course be going to see them.
As to 'Small Fry', I quite the like the song, but I love even more Matt's version of 'Memphis in June', and will be putting it on this month - because it's June!

I don't understand the UK's love for Jim Reeves. Perhaps he has a unique voice, but everything sounds alike to me.
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
How "big" was Jim Reeves in the US, Jeff ? .............he was very popular in Scandanavia too
