Michael Buble - live in Berlin

Post by michduncg » Mon May 31, 2010 2:57 pm

It's been a long time but thought I'd share with you my thoughts on this wonderful night at the O2 World Arena in Berlin. Located in the shadow of the remains of the Berlin Wall, this modern and well organised venue was the destination of many Buble fans including myself and Marc last Friday, May 28th. Why Berlin? Well I have always wanted to visit, and an opportunity to see Michael Buble in great seats much cheaper than in the UK seemed a great excuse!

After a great contemporary warm act entitled 'Naturally 7', Michael made his appearance with his Bondesque take on 'Cry me a river', giving the live band a great pportunity to show off its tremendous talent. Michael effortlessly changed into 'All of me', a great standard which he sang with a cool ease reminisent of Bobby Darin.

Michael chatted a lot to the audience, and was a very natural and charming presence on stage. He talked about his influences (including Michael Jackson), his favourite film (Ferris Buellers day off - mine too!) and linked that into his next track. For a moment I thought he was going to launch into 'Danke Schoen by Bert Kampfert - it would have been great if he had, being in Berlin and all - but no! The track he was referring to was 'Twist & Shout', which got the whole of the audience on its feet. And thats where we stayed for the remaining hour or so, as Michael sang many other great tracks including 'Me & Mrs Jones', 'Save the last dance for me' and 'The World on a string' before finishing with 'Just haven't met you yet'.

My one regret is not taking my camera! I had presumed that the Germans would be even more uptight than the UK Arenas about taking pictures and mindful of my last experience a few years ago when I was told I would have to leave the Arena if I continued filming, I left my camera at home!! How nice it was then to hear Michael implore his fans to get their moneysworth by filming him, singing along with him and dancing on the seats - after all, he commented 'you are the one that have paid YOUR hard earned money'. What came across, even more than his great talents and charm was how truly appreciative of his fans he was. So, a fantastic evening was had by all!!

Hi Mike--how lovely to hear from you again--did you also manage to get to Oslo for Eurovision.

I have a friend who is also keen on Michael Buble, but has been unable to get tickets in UK, but was also talking about going to either France or Germany to see him--not sure if she did, but will take your post along for her to read tomorrow.

Hi Mariana

Hope you are well :-) We didn't go to Eurovision this year  mainly as we went to Oslo for a city break last year and so didn't feel the need to go back so soon! We did however see bad-girl rock singer P!nk in Cologne on Saturday night! She was amazing - a tryly spectacular show

I would heartily recommend Mr Buble - Marc really enjoyed it too sp thats two-thumbs up! I know that he is going to Cologne later in the year, which is only 1 hour flying time. Easyjet go to Cologne too so its not that expensive - thats how we came to go to Germany - we added a few days in Berlin onto it all to make it a nice break, and had a fantastic and fascinating time.

Nice to see your posting Mike, and pleased to hear that you enjoyed Michael Buble's show.
We were able to see him here in London, a couple of years ago,( thanks to Mark,)... what a great singer and performer.
Amazing how younger people took to his recordings, which were mainly crooning ballads to start with, and what devoted fans he has got.
We didn't have our camera with us either that night, but I don't think it would have been allowed as the show was being recorded for BBC Radio 2.
I wasn't so keen on Germany's winning song in the Eurovision contest. It started off quite good and upbeat but I thought it became so repetetive, but it won first place and thousands can't be wrong. :) :)
Our singer was fine, but the song was dated.
Must do better. :) :)

Hi Lena & Harry

Have been reading the comments about the ITV 'Audience with Michael Buble' - I must admit I didn't watch this as the celebrities usually annoy me, as they seem to annoy everyone else! However, as you have commented Michael is indeed a very sincere performer. He really thanked his fans for coming at the end of the show, especially in these times when we are having to think more carefully about what we spend our money on!

Ref the Eurovision. I liked the winner, and I am glad that Germany won - I think most countries were trying to avoid winning and thus gaining the dubious pleasure of staging the £24 million show! I bet Greece and Portugal were dreading winning! But Germany is an 'Old' Eurovision country and has only once before I think with Nicole's 'A little peace' in 1982.

Great review Mike!
I saw Michael on the 16th of May at the O2 in London, was a great night! Such a great performer, it was my second time seeing Michael but I think he was better than before he seems to get more and more comfortable on stage with each passing year.
For those who are interested he is returning to the UK in October time, thought I'm not sure if these shows are sold out yet.
