Yes we saw that John. Not as bad as the con on Richard and Judi's show though, so they would hang on to that gaffe wouldn't they.  or had they forgotten even though it wasn't their doing.

Yes I felt a bit sorry for Terry, really, because I don't think it was his fault.

I think that there was so much concern to 'get it right' after all the phone vote problems of late that somehow it went a bit wrong! I liked the lady who was on the panel with John Barrowman - she knew her Eurovision stuff. She would make a good commentator on the show when Terry finally hangs up his earphones

Anyone read what Justin Hawkins has beeen calling the great British public after snubbing his duet on Saturday :?: He has called us all "Racist" and "Stupid". I wonder how popular he will be from now on with us "Racist" and "Stupid" people.

Indeed Robert! Its not as if he made into the final 2, so I don't know what he's mouthing off at. That said, seeing the way he stormed off the stage the other night, it doesn't surprise me that he's made these comments

Hi All

Sorry, but can I just jump right back to a posting from Paul regarding 'Moody Blue' by Elvis...yes, Paul, I remember the song charting in the UK .
If my memory serves me right, it was released just after Elvis died and made the top ten UK chart.
I have to be honest and say it's my least favourite Elvis song, but I still think it's OK as I love all Elvis' stuff.
Never used to as a young boy growing up though, wasn't until I was in my late teens that I 'discovered' him.
He's a bit like olives to me. I could never eat them when I was younger, now I love them! :)
(Somebody once told me 'olives' are food for grown ups, by the way! lol)

I'm not sure if your memory is correct, Gray. Moody Blue hit the UK top 10 in the spring of 1977 (30 years ago!) and reached number 6. (In the US it only was a hit on the country charts.) Way Down was released in the summer of 1977. It was doing nothing on the US or UK charts, until after Elvis died in August 1977 and then it shot to number 1. I never liked the song.

I've never heard the olive theory. I can't recall not ever loving black olives! But I will always dislike green olives.

Hi Paul

My memory has failed me then, thanks for that info about the chart position.
In my defence I was only 8 in the spring of 77 so maybe you can forgive me.
I do remember 'Way Down' reaching number 1 here in the UK after Elvis' death. Again, not my favourite of his songs, but it's OK (in my opinion).
Whilst you have your thinking cap on, could you please tell me...
1) If you've ever heard 'Don't Cry Daddy'
2) What position did it chart here in the UK & US please.
This tune is a favourite of mine when I'm in the shower and is one of Elvis' last great songs: he conveys great sadness - well i think so anyway!

Thanks

Gray

I vaguely recall Don't Cry Daddy from 1969, but have no recollection of the melody. It was the followup to Suspicious Minds. Here is the chart info:

#6 in US
#8 in UK

After that song, Elvis had much more success on the UK chart than the US chart.

Thanks for that, Paul, I'm glad to see that 'Don't Cry Daddy' was a healthy success both sides of the pond.
I seem to remember reading something about Elvis' lack of impact in the US charts in the 70's, hmm, let me think, was it something to do with him touring heavily in the US, whereas over here fans just had his single releases to cling to....can't be sure, will have to track down the literature to check.
I know we had lots and lot of 45's over here early 70's, song like 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' did make an impact chartwise, whereas they weren't as popular stateside (if they even got a release - over to you on that score for checking!) :)

Anyway, thanks for the info,

Gray

Gray - I know just what you mean about olives! I like them now, especially stuffed!

I really can't remember too much Elvis chart action in the UK in the 1970s until 'Way Down', at the time of his death. I do remember always thinking as a child that 'Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world' was sung by Elvis, but of course it was Charlie Rich. Think that was about 1974.

Did anyone hear Matt on Dale Winton today?
He played 'Honey on the Vine' - as it was released on '45 this week 1966.
Dale said he was 'the best' and his favourite singer.
:)
