Matt Monro's music and speeding tickets

Post by paul jh » Wed May 10, 2006 10:50 pm

Have many of you have gotten a speeding ticket while listening to Matt Monro's music?

I got one this morning.

I was driving to work listening to the These Years CD to calm me down in anticipation of a highly pressured day at work. I stopped to get gasoline, and then drove down a suburban street. I decided to listen to Here There And Everywhere for a third straight time; I just had to hear the vocals, instrumentals, and the cymbals at the very end again. It's so lovely and great to sing along with. The sun was shining, I was feeling relaxed with Matt's music playing, and then I noticed that I passed a police car in a parking lot. He immediately pulls out and turns on the flashing lights. His radar clocked me at 43 mph in a 30 mph zone. I was not happy, as I didn't think I was going fast at all. The ticket was $80, which I believe was unreasonably high. Good thing I wasn't listening to Spanish Eyes; I may have driven even faster and gotten a more expensive ticket!

Anyway, I just wanted to share this little Matt Monro-related story with you.

Hi Paul. Good little story that. The $80 dollar speeding ticket is about the equivalent price of a ticket in this country. Next time you listen to Matt, listen at home   or if you listen while you are driving, you had better turn the volume down 8) 8) to concentrate better.

My tears will fall now that your gone :(

You have very expensive musical tastes in a car, it will probably be less expensive to listen at home.
Thank God you were not listening to We're Gonna Change the World"
they might have clocked you at 60mph

You are right about We're Gonna Change The World. That's one of my favourites---both the original and the duet with Matt Jnr. The duet takes the excellent original arrangement and then adds a few surprises. I often sing-along to these recordings while driving. But I will watch my speed in the future---or save We're Gonna Change The World for the motorways!

I listen to Matt Monro's music at home---usually while cleaning (especially windows!). I find it hard to read while listening to his music, because I only think about the beautiful music.
