The trouble with Lps is they do not play so long--you have to get up and turn them over---clean the stylus--clean the Lp--put it away in one cover --then the Lp cover--then a dust cover---much easier and quicker to get a cd out,

I copy my Lps onto cds by means of a turntable , connected to a cd copier, that is connected to my stereo. So I can also copy cassettes, mini discs too. The computer is nowhere in sight.!!

I also enjoy the warm sound of my old LPs, but I agree with everything Marian just wrote. I only play my records once a year (if that), as so many are now scratched (especially the 45s). I sure wish I had a Matt Monro LP or 45 that I could play.

As I've mentioned before, I now enjoy buying 7 inch (45 RPM) singles from the current rock and pop groups in the UK record stores. I have them in red, green, white, yellow, beige, multi-coloured with pictures, standard black, and clear vinyl; they really look nice! I play them on my "new" 50s-style record player I bought for $69 last year.

I don't have any vinyl but I guess one can't contemplate binning the vinyl you have until the CD versions of the same albums are all brought out, which in the case of some artists will be a long time. Soon CDs of albums 50 years old will start to appear, released by record companies taking advantage of the passing of the 50-year copyright rule for performers, but this means that we will have to wait a minimum of five to ten years and more for albums of our favourite artists (e.g. Johnny Mathis) to appear.

Hi All

Thanks for replying. :)

The ironic thing is, Vinyl could end up outlasting our CD's - don't compact disc have a limited life span as they can eventually 'rot'? :(

I know what you mean Paul regarding colour vinyl, cool isn' it!

Wonder what we'll be using to listen to music in 10 years time?
I suppose by then, in the age of portable media systems, the end of analogue transmissions, we'll all look like Lt Uhuru (!) off Star Trek, with tiny little dongles shoved in our ears and music beamed directly from the squillion gig server placed in a filling in a tooth.
Oh, and Leeds Utd will be Champions of Europe, too.

:)

Don't be too dismayed Gray, maybe Dennis is holding back a secret plan. Steve Mc Claren said today that THE PLAN that he set out to do is working, although.... looking back on the last Five games

Getting back on topic - "Row Row Row" on the "Rare Monro" is very good, even at under a minute long 8)
