Rat Pack Lyrics

Post by Catherine M » Tue Mar 06, 2007 11:38 pm

I recently saw Sammy Davis Jnr on TV in black and white footage about
the Rat Pack. He sings a song in which he says the line:

"Dont go to Matt Monro"

Clearly this a rib at the GO GO WITH MATT MONRO phase.

I am intrigued. Does anyone know the song or even if this amused
Matt Monro himself?

Hi CM!

As a Dean Martin impersonator, and one who has a number of the old black and white videos of the 'Rat Pack' days, I cannot remember Sammy saying that, but like you I'd be interested if you get any replies!

We shall have to look on some footage that we have. This would have all been said and done in good fun of course. Matt and Sammy were good friends and Sammy was guest on Matt's "This Is Your Life"

Lena and Harry and Sammy Davis Jnr!

Post by Billmiler » Thu Mar 08, 2007 6:57 pm

I knew Lena and Harry would come up with some news - they seem to be the real knowledgable people regarding ALL info! I HAVE to meet them one day! And as they said, it was probably said 'tongue in cheek'. Talking of Sammy, I had the honour of seeing him at the Empire Liverpool many years ago - what a performer! And one of his most memorable sayings was, on exiting the New York Golf Club after a punter had asked "What's your handicap Sammy?" "I'm a one-eyed Jewish Negroe, what's yours!" Truly one of World's greatest entertainers of all time!

Hi Bill, nice of you to say so, but we are not as knowledgeable as we would like to be, but the forum here is a great source of information where we are learning from each other all the time.
Have to say that our knowledge of music may also have increased since discovering a whole new world of sngers, song writers and musicians mainly from the other side of the big pond unknown to us before. Isn't the internet wonderful
We agree with you about Sammy Davies Jnr. He was in a class of his own. A great all round entertainer. :) :)

More Info on Topic

Trying to give more info on the above.

I think it was at the end of an old black and white TV show.
In the song, Sammy Davis Jnr is telling the audience to let him sing for them hence 'Dont go to Matt Monro'. He is quite animated on the stage -
down on his knees at one point and you can clearly hear the audience.

The programme was broadcast on either Channel 4 or the Biography channel - subject being the Rat Pack.

That is all I can remember.
