Very interesting information Richard. What a great team, all working together to bring us this new album.
Thanks to everyone concerned.
I recently bought a CD of "Alguien Canto" from La Puente California, which was advertised as being "out of print." :D
Really looking forward to the new release and to hear Alguien Canto in "Real Stereo" for the first time.

Hi All

What a terrific story, can I ask what Mock Stereo is?
How do you achieve this at a mixing desk?
Do you simply add loads of reverb when transferring from a mono track?

Mock stereo covers any recording where a mono track is taken and processed to give a "Stereo effect" This ranges from the Capitol Duophonic recordings of the 50's & 60's - which Alguien Canto is a good example

ie: Cut the low frequencies in one channel and the high in the other and add reverb.

to the "Electronically Created Stereo" of the 70's and 80's which used an electronic box of tricks to create this effect - which made people sound anything from robots to if they were singing in a metal box!

None of these were successful and this has almost died out now (there are a couple of labels still at it mind - but not any of the BIG companies)

To me if it only exists in mono leave it that way! If it was recorded in stereo issue it that way - but don't get me started on that one!

HI RICHARD,
WAS THE REAL STERO OF "ALGUIEN CANTO" TAKEN FROM THE ARGENTINA EP "CANTRA EN ESPANOL" CAPITOL 2031 ?
IF NOT WOULD YOU MIND LISTING THE SOURCE NAME AND NUMBER.
THANK SO MUCH

ED

I am unfortunatly not a discography expert.

The Stereo came from a 24 Track Argentinian compilation LP - Not an EP. I can't tell you the title as I no longer have it (it was only in my hands for about 24 hours) and Michele would have to search through here entire vinyl collection to find it - maybe John remembers.

It was a compilation mixing up all the tracks from the main two Spanish LP's - ie the two issued on CD on Monday!

It is of course entirely possible that the Stereo mix has appeared elsewhere, but this is the only copy I have come across out of LOTS of different LP's Singles and EP's - It was mixed to stereo on the same day as the mono, but there is no record as to what happened to the stereo mix tape - it doesn't appear to be in the EMI archive unless misfiled. My guess is that it was mixed to stereo specifically for a spanish speaking country - probably Argentina - and the mix down tape sent there and no copy retained by EMI UK who had no interest in issuing it at all as they were putting out The Music Played. It was only issued in the UK in the 1980's
