American Idol Season 6
Dermot O'Leary presents a radio programme of mostly new rock music on Saturday afternoons on Radio 2. I believe he was also involved with Big Brother. He seems like a nice guy with a good command of the English language. I believe he's fairly knowledgeable about music, but not at the level of Jo Whiley or Ken Bruce.
I liked Samantha Mumba's hit record. I can't even remember the title anymore. She will be better than Randy Jackson.

Dermot O'Leary presents "Big Brother's Little Brother" Marian.
He's quite good on that kind of show, but he's used to being in charge and I somehow don't feel this kind of supportive role will suit him, but I may be proved wrong. He does seem to get on very well with people, which I suppose is what he'll have to do.

Anything to do with "Big Brother" is like a closed book to me.
Just watched AI ---I guessed Haley and Chris would be in the bottom 2.
There has been some coverage this week of Sanjaya --and the voting etc,as mentioned by Jeff in an earlier post.
I was quite surprised that I knew most of the songs tonight--I think my favourite was Lakisha with "Last Dance"--mainly because I love that song.

I thought Melinda was the best with her cover of one of my Donna Summer favourites: Heaven Knows. She made the song her own.
I enjoyed Gwen Stefani's performance of The Sweet Escape on the results show. However, I can't see what Akon adds to the song. I love it when she sings about 20 words as triplets on the same note. Sarah Kennedy has reported that her listeners' dogs are singing along with the "Whohoe, Whihoo" part. Did Harry and Chloe sing along tonight, Marian?

I had heard about Randy Jackson and Brian Friedman--but not Danii Minogue ! Brian Friedman was one of the judges, and choreographers on the recently finished-"So you think you can Dance" from USA--on Sky---it was a great programme-I watched it from start to finish--like x-factor, but all dancers.

The standards show last night was very disappointing. Tony Bennett gave excellent coaching advice, but most of them didn't take it. He suggested Phil add a slow swing beat to Night And Day, but Phil sang it as a boring operatic ballad. I voted for Jordin a few times, but when I replayed her performance of On A Clear Day, I noticed she breathed in the middle of forever. It was "for (gasp) ever". I'm spoiled by Matt Monro's version. Even worse was Lakisha. Tony told her to finish on the high note for Stormy Weather and not do her silly little coda. If I were her, I would certainly take the advice of a master, but she didn't. She sang that coda and it was truly dreadful. The only person who performed well was Melinda who sang I Got Rhythm with the opening verse included ... what a treat!
Tony Bennett said they were singing the best American music ever written. That may be true, but you'd never realise it by their performances. I was so upset that I had to play Matt Monro's The Shadow Of Your Smile this morning to hear a standard sung properly.
Marian - Dermot O'Leary is filling in for Ken Bruce for two weeks. So you can hear him on Radio 2. I know you like to listen to Popmaster. This is interesting: the late morning DJ on Radio 1 (Jo Whiley) is older than the temporary late morning DJ on Radio 2. Perhaps Robert is right after all. Radio 2 has become Radio 1!

Danni Minogue was interviewed by Martin Brundle before the Australian Grand Prix a couple of weeks ago. She stated she had a "big" TV show lined up for this year, but could not give any details at that time,as it was top secret

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

That sounds like an interesting line up for Friday night--for a change I will be in, so I can watch it straight away. It also sounds as though they could have done a lot more, with some great songs to choose from.
I have been listening to Dermot O Leary all this week---he sounds Ok-although I prefer Ken Bruce. I guess he will be ok as a presenter on x factor--it is hard to say. I do not much like the idea of Danii Minogue being a judge.
